2010 Saab 9-5 Overview

When it was new, reviewers said the 2010 Saab 9-5 was a smooth car that felt reasonably quick, as long as you’re not expecting sport sedan agility. Most also found the interior to be well-made and comfortable. But the praise never got much more enthusiastic than that. Some testers suggested that many of the 9-5’s competitors are either sportier and more nimble, more luxurious or both. The 9-5’s reliability score is merely average for the class, though Saab’s corporate demise may make it more difficult to get parts down the road. On the plus side, the Saab 9-5 received an outstanding safety score.

The redesigned 9-5 is powered by a 300-horsepower 2.8-liter turbocharged V6 engine. Most critics liked the engine’s power, though none called the 9-5 sporty, despite its standard all-wheel drive and adaptive suspension that allows the driver to modulate ride quality to favor either sport or comfort. Most said the 9-5 is geared more for comfort than agility, so it may not be the best choice for those seeking out a sport sedan. Fuel economy is estimated at 16/27 mpg city/highway, which is a bit low for the class, but on par for an all-wheel drive midsize car. Maximum trunk space is 18.2 cubic feet, which is very generous and one of the best in the class.

Inside, reviewers were generally pleased with the 9-5’s cabin, saying the material quality and overall design were both good. They also found the seats comfortable, but some did note that the car’s sloping roofline limits back-seat headroom. Standard equipment includes leather upholstery, dual-zone climate control, heated power front seats, rear parking sensors, a USB port, satellite radio and Bluetooth. Available equipment includes a Harman Kardon stereo, ventilated front seats, navigation, a rear-seat entertainment system and lane departure warning.

Other Cars to Consider

It also has a sumptuous interior and multiple engine choices. Additionally, the CTS’ great reliability rating makes it a better choice than the 9-5.
