2020 Ram 1500 Interior Review

Scorecard

Interior: 9.4

The 2020 Ram 1500 boasts a superb infotainment system, handsome cabin styling, and quality interior materials. The upper trims reach luxury levels, though even the lower ones have tasteful, well-made cabins. Both cab styles beat the competition when it comes to rear-seat legroom. Altogether, these highlights form what professional reviewers say is the best interior in the full-size pickup truck class.

  • "Inside, though, the Ram knocks it out of the park. From the most basic Tradesman to the ritziest Limited, it boasts attractive styling, innovative storage and abundant feature content." -- Autotrader
  • "This truck can be really luxurious inside, and because of the aforementioned air suspension, offers a cushy, stable ride." -- CNET
  • "Another Ram hallmark has been interior quality, and for 2019 the designers have gone above and beyond what you would expect in a truck. It isn't just one layout that looks nice; there are several. Materials and fit and finish are excellent, and while we didn't get to see all the possible combinations of cloth, leather, wood, and metal, what we did see was arguably best in class, while the controls were logically placed and in easy reach." -- Kelley Blue Book (2019)

Seating

The 2020 Ram 1500 comes standard with seating for six people and a folding rear bench seat. Some models come with a set of front bucket seats – dropping the seating capacity by one – and a 60/40-split-folding rear bench seat.

Crew Cab models boast more rear-seat legroom than any other full-size pickup truck. Even 6-footers won’t have a problem riding in the back. Legroom in this area shrinks by almost 10 inches in Quad Cab models.

Vinyl and cloth upholstery are standard, as are four-way manually adjustable front seats. Available seating features include upgraded cloth upholstery, leather upholstery, eight-way power-adjustable front bucket seats, a 60/40-split-folding rear bench seat, heated and ventilated front and rear seats, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, a heated steering wheel, and power-adjustable pedals.

For securing child safety seats, there are two complete sets of LATCH connectors for the rear outboard seats. The rear middle seat in Quad Cab models has a tether anchor, while those in Crew Cab models have a full set of upper and lower anchors.

The anchors in Quad Cab trucks are mostly easy to use, and the system earned the second-highest rating of Acceptable from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety. It's harder to install a car seat in Crew Cab models because the hardware is difficult to find and could be tricky to tell apart from cargo anchors. The IIHS gave the LATCH system in these the trucks the second-lowest rating of Marginal for ease of use.

  • "In terms of space, the Crew Cab's back seat is enormous, plus it reclines, it can be heated, and uniquely, ventilated, as well." -- Autotrader
  • "Even the Big Horn, with its cloth seats, isn't a bad place to be; you get the distinct sense that Ram started with the top trim-level trucks and worked its way down rather than wrapping a bare-bones truck in tooled leather until it had a Longhorn Laramie. The result is a more comfortable, better-considered truck no matter where in the range you jump in — and that benefits the guy who earns his living in a Tradesman just as it does the family cruising around in a loaded-up Limited." -- Autoweek (2019)
  • "… it's unsurprising that the 2019 Ram Limited delivers an absolutely enormous interior, regardless of which row you happen to be sitting in. There's enough space for an adult to lie on their back lengthways across the floor in the rear of the Ram's cabin with their knees up, which means even the tallest and widest of individuals won't have any complaints about losing shotgun." -- New York Daily News (2019)

Interior Features

The Ram 1500 earns lots of praise for its infotainment system, which uses the latest version of the Uconnect interface. Its menu layout is easy to learn, the screens have crisp graphics, and you can customize a row of shortcut buttons for quick access to your favorite features.

Standard features include the Uconnect infotainment system with a 5-inch touch screen, Bluetooth, three USB ports, six speakers, a Wi-Fi hot spot, push-button start, and a rearview camera.

An upgraded Uconnect system with 8.4-inch or 12-inch touch screens is available. Additional options include Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, navigation, additional USB ports, wireless device charging, satellite radio, HD Radio, a 19-speaker Harman Kardon audio system, two 115-volt household-style power outlets, dual-zone automatic climate control, remote start, and a single- or dual-pane sunroof.

Optional safety features include forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, blind spot monitoring, rear cross traffic alert, lane departure warning, lane keep assist, automatic high-beam headlights, rain-sensing windshield wipers, a surround-view parking camera system, front and rear parking sensors, and parallel and perpendicular park assist.

  • "USB ports are everywhere, the 8.4-in touchscreen is huge and easy to use and the 12-in vertically oriented screen is even better." -- Autotrader
  • "Uconnect has been easy to use and easy on the eyes for as long as I can remember. The fourth version of the software takes it to a whole new level with remarkably sharp resolution. It looks good on the 8.4-inch screen. On this 12-inch display, the infotainment system is as big, bright and idiot-proof as the menu at Denny's." -- Jalopnik (2019)
  • "The adaptive cruise is smooth and works beautifully, coming to an easy stop behind a lead car in traffic before starting back up again. Lane keeping assist work as advertised, with a gentle nudge easing me back into my lane." -- CNET (2019)

Cargo

The Ram 1500 comes with a standard 6-foot-4-inch bed or an available 5-foot-7-inch bed. There is enough room between this truck’s wheel wells for a 4-foot-wide sheet of plywood. Exterior options include cargo lights, a tailgate step, and RamBox built-in storage bins. The available 60/40-split multifunction tailgate can swing down like normal, or it can open outward to the sides.

Inside, there are optional RamBins located underneath the cargo floor in the back seat, and an available center console provides lots of room. All rear bench seats are foldable, revealing a flat floor underneath.

  • "Ram also increased the truck's storage space. In addition to the expandable storage areas under the rear seat, there are RamBins under the rear floor. Hidden by the floormat, this is a handy spot to keep small items out of sight. In front, the center console storage area is best be described as huge. It fits a laptop and then some – it's big enough to hold 39 liters of gear and can be reconfigured 12 ways." -- Kelley Blue Book (2019)
  • "Outside, the Ram Box storage system is a $995 option, but well worth it. The locking boxes are on the outside of the truck and even have a 115-volt outlet. The Ram Box doesn't impede on the bed's tremendous capacity." -- CNET (2019)
  • "Even more impressive, however, is the Limited's borderline ridiculous level of interior storage space." -- New York Daily News (2019)
