2019 Ram 1500 Interior Review

Interior: 9.4

The Ram 1500 had a great cabin before the redesign, and the 2019 model further improves things. The interior is quiet, attractive, and upscale. It uses high-quality materials throughout, and the higher trims feature almost luxury vehicle levels of opulence. The seats are extremely spacious, and the infotainment system is one of the most user-friendly in the class.

  • "… there's no other truck on the market that offers the level of interior fit, finish, and innovation that you'll find inside the range-topping Ram, especially when considering its enormous infotainment screen, copious storage, and well-appointed cabin." -- New York Daily News
  • "The interior is not only refined, it's also more functional than ever." -- Car and Driver
  • "Another Ram hallmark has been interior quality, and for 2019 the designers have gone above and beyond what you would expect in a truck. It isn't just one layout that looks nice; there are several. Materials and fit and finish are excellent, and while we didn't get to see all the possible combinations of cloth, leather, wood, and metal, what we did see was arguably best in class, while the controls were logically placed and in easy reach." -- Kelley Blue Book

The 2019 Ram seats up to six people in Quad Cab and Crew Cab models. It comes standard with vinyl upholstery. Cloth upholstery, leather upholstery, premium leather upholstery, front bucket seats, power-adjustable front seats, heated and ventilated front seats, reclining rear seats, heated and ventilated rear seats, a heated steering wheel, and power-adjustable pedals are available.

The redesigned Ram 1500 has a larger cab, providing a lot of space for passengers. The front seats are comfortable, especially in the higher trims, which have more seating upgrades than before. The rear seats are among the most spacious of any full-size truck (especially in Crew Cab models), and even tall adults will have plenty of head- and legroom in the back seats.

For installing child safety seats, Crew Cab models have three full sets of LATCH connectors for the rear seats. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety gave the setup the second-lowest rating of Marginal for ease of use. The tether anchors can be difficult to locate and could be confused for other hardware.

Quad Cabs have two sets of car-seat connectors for the rear outboard seats, as well as an upper tether for the rear middle seat. This setup received the second-highest rating of Acceptable from the IIHS, which says the tether anchors may be hard to find.

  • "Even the Big Horn, with its cloth seats, isn't a bad place to be; you get the distinct sense that Ram started with the top trim-level trucks and worked its way down rather than wrapping a bare-bones truck in tooled leather until it had a Longhorn Laramie. The result is a more comfortable, better-considered truck no matter where in the range you jump in — and that benefits the guy who earns his living in a Tradesman just as it does the family cruising around in a loaded-up Limited." -- Autoweek
  • "The new seat structure sits 0.8 inch lower, providing sufficient Stetson clearance. Stretching the cabin four inches extends rear legroom, creating the largest back seat in the segment at 68 cubic feet in the crew cab. In higher trims, the rear seats recline for maximum comfort." -- Car and Driver
  • "With four inches of extra cab, it's unsurprising that the 2019 Ram Limited delivers an absolutely enormous interior, regardless of which row you happen to be sitting in. There's enough space for an adult to lie on their back lengthways across the floor in the rear of the Ram's cabin with their knees up, which means even the tallest and widest of individuals won't have any complaints about losing shotgun." -- New York Daily News

Interior Features

Standard features in the Ram 1500 include push-button start, Bluetooth, three USB ports, a rearview camera, and the Uconnect infotainment system with a 5-inch touch screen. Available features include dual-zone automatic climate control, remote start, a sunroof, two additional USB ports, two 115-volt power outlets, wireless device charging, satellite radio, HD Radio, a 19-speaker Harman Kardon audio system, and an upgraded Uconnect system with an 8.4- or 12-inch touch screen, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and navigation.

Available driver assistance features include adaptive cruise control, a surround-view camera, blind spot monitoring, rear cross traffic alert, forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane departure warning, lane keep assist, front and rear parking sensors, and parallel and perpendicular park assist.

This truck features a well-organized center stack with clearly labeled, easy-to-reach controls. The Uconnect system features a touch screen with sharp graphics and a more user-friendly interface than many competitors' systems. And unlike some vehicles, the Ram provides physical controls for some functions, so you don't always have to use the touch screen.

For 2019, the 1500 gets a host of new driver assistance features, and they work extremely well. The adaptive cruise control works smoothly, even when cruising through heavy traffic, and the blind spot monitoring feature even works for the space behind the truck, letting you know if your blind spots are clear while pulling a trailer.

  • "Regardless of configuration, the center control stack has been upgraded with a configurable toggle switch bank, improved button quality and upgraded versions of Chrysler's user-friendly touchscreen interfaces. Standard on most trims is the 8.4-in unit … while the Ram-exclusive 12-in vertically oriented touchscreen found on upper trims will not only impress your friends, but unlike similar screens found in Teslas, Volvos and the Toyota Prius Prime, its accompanying hard buttons allow you to more easily access and control certain functions (especially the climate system)." -- Autotrader
  • "Uconnect has been easy to use and easy on the eyes for as long as I can remember. The fourth version of the software takes it to a whole new level with remarkably sharp resolution. It looks good on the 8.4-inch screen. On this 12-inch display, the infotainment system is as big, bright and idiot-proof as the menu at Denny's." -- Jalopnik
  • "The adaptive cruise is smooth and works beautifully, coming to an easy stop behind a lead car in traffic before starting back up again. Lane keeping assist work as advertised, with a gentle nudge easing me back into my lane. Unfortunately, the majority of the Ram's driver's aids are all optional, and only on higher trim levels. Only blind-spot monitoring is a standard feature, and that's only true on the 1500 Limited." -- CNET

The Ram 1500 is available in two bed lengths: 6-foot-4 (available with Quad and Crew Cab models) and 5-foot-7 (available with Crew Cab models only). A deployable bed step, adjustable tie-downs, and the RamBox storage system are available. RamBox provides in-bed storage compartments that are handy for storing tools or tailgate supplies, and they don't affect your available bed space when in use, though trucks equipped with them do have a narrower bed opening than those without.

There are also underfloor storage bins in the cabin, known as RamBins. These add to the already generous amount of cabin storage space.

  • "Outside, the Ram Box storage system is a $995 option, but well worth it. The locking boxes are on the outside of the truck and even have a 115-volt outlet. The Ram Box doesn't impede on the bed's tremendous capacity." -- CNET
  • "Ram also increased the truck's storage space. In addition to the expandable storage areas under the rear seat, there are RamBins under the rear floor. Hidden by the floormat, this is a handy spot to keep small items out of sight. In front, the center console storage area is best be described as huge. It fits a laptop and then some – it's big enough to hold 39 liters of gear and can be reconfigured 12 ways." -- Kelley Blue Book
  • "Even more impressive, however, is the Limited's borderline ridiculous level of interior storage space." -- New York Daily News
