They particularly liked models the 5.7-liter V8, which provides ample power in all situations. A four-speed automatic transmission comes with the V6-powered Ram 1500, while V8 models have a six-speed automatic. Fuel economy is an EPA-estimated 14/20 mpg city/highway for a rear-wheel drive 2012 Ram 1500 regardless of the engine, which is OK for the class. The Ram 1500 has a coil spring rear suspension, and test drivers said that this gives the 1500 a distinct advantage over other trucks in terms of its ride quality and smoothness.
