2011 Ram 1500 Review

The 2011 Ram 1500 has one of the most comfortable rides in the class and a range of strong engines, but other trucks earn better safety scores.

Pros & Cons

  • Great ride quality
  • Innovative RamBox storage compartments
  • Underpowered base engine
  • Low safety score

2011 Ram 1500 Overview

Reviewers liked the 2011 Ram 1500’s comfortable, refined ride, which they said is one of the best in the class, thanks to its unique rear suspension system. Few reviewers tested the Ram 1500’s base V6, but those who did said that it is underpowered. Additionally, V6 models use just as much fuel as those equipped with the top-tier Hemi V8. As a result, most test drivers preferred the two available V8s, which they said have ample power. Overall, the Ram 1500’s fuel economy ratings are a bit low for the class. With the 5.7-liter V8, the Ram 1500 can tow up to 10,450 pounds.

Reviewers said the Ram 1500’s cabin is solidly built and lavishly appointed, especially on the upper trim levels. Regular cab models seat up to three, while Quad (extended) and crew cab models can seat up to six. Reviewers said the front seats offer plenty of space and support, and one critic wrote that the crew cab’s second row is also comfortable and spacious. The Quad Cab has less back-seat space than the crew cab. Like most trucks, the base Ram 1500 comes with little in the way of standard equipment. Available features include dual-zone automatic climate control, heated and cooled power-adjustable front bucket seats, leather upholstery, a 10-speaker stereo, Chrysler’s Uconnect infotainment system, navigation, Bluetooth and a backup camera. RamBox lockable storage compartments in the bed’s sidewalls were optional as well.

Other Trucks to Consider

The 2011 Ford F-150 earned praise for its high-quality interior and strong engine choices, which were significantly updated for 2011. The F-150 also has a higher tow rating and better safety score than the Ram 1500.

With strong engine choices, the 2011 GMC Sierra 1500 is also worth consideration. Reviewers liked the blend of power and fuel economy from the Sierra’s available 5.3-liter V8, as well as its straightforward interior controls.
