2019 Porsche Macan Interior Review

Scorecard

Interior: 7.8

The 2019 Porsche Macan has a stylish, handsome cabin with premium materials. The cabin is full of high-tech and intuitive features. However, both cargo space and rear-seat room are subpar for the segment.

  • Along with the larger interface comes a redesigned dash. We think the new design looks great. While some vehicle's displays look like a tablet tacked on to the dashboard as an afterthought, the Macan's is flush-mounted and nicely integrated into the overall design." -- Edmunds
  • Like all Porsches, the Macan S possesses a polish that runs deep, and while it might not have the design flair of something like the Range Rover Velar, there’s a timelessness to the Porsche’s look that provides a reward all its own." -- Automobile Magazine

Seating

The Macan seats five people in two rows. The front seats are highly supportive and comfortable. Headroom in the back is good, but legroom is cramped.

Partial leather upholstery and eight-way power-adjustable front seats are standard. Available upgrades include heated and ventilated front seats, additional seat adjustments, heated rear seats, and a heated steering wheel. There are two complete sets of LATCH connectors, and the middle seat has a tether anchor.

  • The front seats are as comfy and supportive as ever, [but] the rear seats [are] still sort of cramped." -- CNET
  • The back seats provide ample headroom, though passengers might want to get out and stretch their legs after a while, as there isn’t a ton of legroom." -- Jalopnik
  • The flip side, however, is that the Macan's tidy dimensions take a toll on its utility. The rear seat is cramped, and forget sticking a passenger in the middle." -- Car and Driver

Interior Features

Standard features in the base Macan include tri-zone automatic climate control and the Porsche Communication Management infotainment system with a 10.9-inch touch screen, navigation, a Wi-Fi hot spot, a 10-speaker sound system, voice controls, four USB ports, satellite radio, and Bluetooth. A few safety features come standard too, including front and rear parking sensors, lane departure warning, and a rearview camera.

Available features include Apple CarPlay, a 14- or 16-speaker stereo, push-button start, proximity keyless entry, lane keep assist, lane change assist, a 360-degree parking camera, and traffic jam assist with adaptive cruise control.

The touch screen is large, with sharp graphics and quick responses. There are many physical controls, which makes some functions easier use but also clutters the dash.

  • "The main revision is the upgrade to a new 10.9-inch touchscreen from the old Macan's 7.2-inch unit. The new screen is a thing of beauty, with sharp, easy-to-read graphics, a hyper-responsive touchscreen, and fairly intuitive customizable menus." -- Autoblog
  • The design accentuates the width of the interior and keeps things tidy on the dashboard. There is still a mass of buttons covering the center console, however. While it takes a while to learn what they are all for, they provide direct access to many of the Macan's functions. We found them to be more convenience-enhancing than clutter." -- Edmunds
  • Take a gander inside, and again, not much has changed. You'll notice the larger 10.9-inch touchscreen atop the center stack, with reshaped air vents below. Below that, the console carries over unchanged, shod with a mess of pronounced buttons rather than the cleaner, flat-surface design of the new Panamera." -- CNET

Cargo

The 2019 Macan has 17.6 cubic feet of space behind the rear seats and 52.9 cubic feet with them folded. Both figures are small for the luxury compact SUV class.

  • The low roofline and the rounded rump also impinge on the cargo hold. Luggage space is a sedanlike 18 cubic feet behind the rear seats – 9 cubic feet less than in a Q5." -- Car and Driver
  • Behind [the rear seats], the cargo area boasts the same 17.7 cubic feet of space, or 53 with the back bench folded -- both numbers falling on the smaller side of average for the class." -- CNET
  • Its trunk will fit a set of medium-sized suitcases from a small family or two large suitcases from two pack rats." -- Jalopnik
