2010 Porsche Cayman

2010 Porsche Cayman Interior Review

Note: This interior review was created when the 2010 Porsche Cayman was new.

Interior: 7.9

Auto writers report that the Cayman's cabin features classy fit and finish, as well as comfortable seats and better-than-expected cargo room.

  • "Rich-feeling, carefully assembled cabin materials enhance the sophisticated ambiance, but Porsche charges extra for amenities some rivals include as standard, including full leather upholstery and power seats." -- Consumer Guide
  • "Plenty of Porsche heritage is evident in the detailing of the Cayman's compact but well-finished and comfortable cabin, starting with the signature dash-mounted ignition to the left of the three-spoke steering wheel and lots of leather and brushed aluminum accent trim." -- Kelley Blue Book
  • "Interior materials are molded and sewed into dark, sleek shapes and contours. Upon closer inspection, it's not the best leather, carpet or plastic on Earth, but it does the job of conveying a sense of tasteful décor." -- Edmunds

Reviewers find that the Cayman provides comfortable and supportive seating for two passengers.

  • "Cayman's low-slung cockpit is roomy enough for six-footers. The seats are exceptionally supportive during aggressive cornering, but they lack long-distance lumbar firmness.  ... Entry and exit demands some flexibility." -- Consumer Guide
  • "Even the standard seats are well-bolstered and supportive and headroom is especially generous for a sports car." -- Edmunds
  • "The interior is about right, too. You'll find it easy to come up with a good driving position, once you get used to pedals closer together than is typical and offset slightly right." -- USA Today
  • "The comfortable seats in the businesslike interior provide excellent support during hard driving, and gauges can be easily read." -- MSN

Interior Features

The Cayman features an impressive list of standard and optional interior convenience features. For instance, upon request it can be equipped with Porsche Communication Management (PCM) -- which integrates navigation, phone, audio, and the trip computer functions in a single interface. Many reviewers, however, complain that some controls are too small and/or confusing to use.

  • "As with other Porsches, the Cayman's handsome cockpit contains a number of initially confusing controls, mainly those of the audio and climate control systems. With familiarity, however, they become fairly easy to use and the gauges are also typically Porsche, meaning large and well-marked." -- Edmunds
  • "Controls are straightforward and include a nifty climate-control setup. You can turn each of the three normal airflow positions -- floor, dashboard, windshield -- on or off independently, giving you more control over where the air blows." -- USA Today
  • "Secondary controls for such things as the audio system...are almost too small for easy, quick use by a driver." -- MSN
  • "Note that Cayman does without a spare tire, supplying instead an emergency inflation kit." -- Consumer Guide

Thanks to its front and rear cargo holds (its engine is mid-mounted), the Cayman provides a lot more cargo room than one would expect from such a small car. For even greater cargo room, check out the Corvette coupe. Its trunk provides 22.4 cubic-feet of space.

  • "Cargo capacity is an Accord-like 14 cubic feet, split between the front trunk and the gaping, forward-hinged hatchback." -- Car and Driver
  • "There is decent cargo room for a small coupe: 14.4 cubic feet of luggage capacity, with 9.1 cubic feet of luggage space beneath the tailgate. There's also a front luggage compartment with 5.25 cubic feet and several storage compartments for smaller odds and ends." -- MSN
