2014 Porsche Cayenne Interior Review

Note: This interior review was created when the 2014 Porsche Cayenne was new.

Interior: 8.1

The 2014 Porsche Cayenne earns praise for its upscale interior, which is constructed with high-quality materials. One reviewer also appreciates that the Cayenne’s center stack has a unique design that distinguishes it from its rival SUVs.

  • "Like other Porsches, the Cayenne features high-end interior materials and excellent build quality. Handsome wood inserts, alloy trim and leather upholstery create a luxurious ambience, and you can add even more leather and wood if you like, not to mention carbon fiber and/or faux suede embellishments." -- Edmunds
  • "Inside the 2014 Porsche Cayenne are sumptuous, finely stitched leather and overlays of wood and metal. The look strongly recalls the up-market Porsche Panamera sedan." -- Kelley Blue Book
  • "I love the interior in the Cayenne. It's modern, sophisticated with an expensive feel, but more than anything, it's different. The sloping center console and compass on top of the dash, along with the vertical air vents make for a uniquely Porsche look." -- Jalopnik (2013)

The 2014 Cayenne seats five and comes standard with leather seats and eight-way power-adjustable front seats. Heated front and rear seats, ventilated front seats, seats with a greater range of power adjustment, upgraded leather upholstery and more supportive sport seats are optional or available on upper trims. The Cayenne's seats impress reviewers with their long-haul comfort and support through more aggressive cornering. Additionally, one reviewer says that outward visibility is very good.

  • "Meanwhile, it comfortably accommodates up to five passengers and lots of gear." -- Kelley Blue Book
  • "Stitched leather lines every nook and cranny, and seats have incredible support." -- Jalopnik (2013)
  • "The forward sightlines, enhanced by slender A-pillars, may be best in class, and vision in all quarters is excellent." -- Car and Driver (2011)

Interior Features

The 2014 Porsche Cayenne comes standard with a 10-speaker stereo system with a 7-inch touch-screen display screen, Bluetooth and dual-zone automatic climate control, but few other notable features. Optional features include four-zone automatic climate control, an upgraded Bose or Burmester stereo system depending on trim, satellite radio, a rear entertainment system and navigation. Available active safety features include front and rear parking sensors, a backup camera, adaptive cruise control and lane change assist.

Reviewers note that the Cayenne's dashboard mimics that of the Panamera sedan and features a vast amount of buttons. Few seem to mind, however, saying the buttons are logically arranged, which makes it easier to adjust vehicle settings than it does in many rivals.

  • "With a posh interior inspired by the Panamera sedan, the Cayenne sports a long, sloping center console and a plethora of buttons and switches thanks to the lack of an iDrive-style control system." -- Left Lane News
  • "Like all of Porsche's current offerings, the Cayenne's cockpit is filled with buttons, knobs and switches, and while that might sound complex, most of us still find operating conventional controls far less distracting than sifting through multiple on-screen menus." -- Kelley Blue Book
  • "With so many buttons, it can be difficult to find what you're looking for at first, but the touchscreen menus are straightforward and the system is quick to process inputs. Overall, it's a solid system and not any more difficult to use than the dial/knob-based systems in rival luxury SUVs." -- Edmunds
  • "The cornucopia of buttons on the center console may confound drivers at first, but they become rather intuitive over time." -- Automobile Magazine (2012)

The 2014 Porsche Cayenne comes standard with a power liftgate and offers 62.9 cubic feet of cargo space with the rear seats folded. That’s a comparable amount of space with the cargo space of some two-row SUVs in the class, but it’s also less than what competitors like the Lexus RX 350 offer. Some reviewers say that the Cayenne’s cargo hold is on the small side for a luxury midsize SUV, but other test drivers write that it’s a useful amount of space.

  • "The Cayenne has a maximum luggage capacity of 62.9 cubic feet, a figure reduced to 59.7 and 60.2 for the Hybrid and Turbo models, respectively. This is on the small side for the Cayenne's class." -- Edmunds
  • "The cargo area offers class-competitive space, with rear seat backs that fold flat. Under-floor storage ranges from minuscule in conventional models, to non-existent in the Hybrid. Interior storage consists of an average-size glovebox, center console, and door pockets." -- Consumer Guide (2011)
