2008 Porsche Boxster Overview

The 2008 Porsche Boxster, the Cayman's convertible twin brother, is every bit as practical as it is luxurious and sporty. "Overall, what the Boxster offers over so many others is a near idealistic balance," writes Automobile.com. "I'm not talking about its balance on the road, we all know about that, but more so, its balance of thrilling performance and almost decadent luxury." Combined with two trunks and a ride that's compliant enough for daily driving, it's no surprise that the Boxster receives the amount of praise that it does. Even so, the Boxster is not perfect. Common reviewer complaints include difficult-to-access cabin, as well road noise harsh enough to mute conversations and the radio at high speeds. While the 2008 Boxster features a 245-horsepower V6 engine, the Boxster S is equipped with a 295-horsepower V6.

  • "It's impossible for any sun lover to drive the Porsche Boxster without a smile extended ear to ear. ...  Top-down driving works because it becomes an event, a kind of short vacation with a luxury factor of ten on a ten-point scale." -- Road & Travel Magazine
  • "Throw in its impressive cargo space, better than average reliability and extremely strong resale value, and a Boxster S is a pretty sound purchase." -- Automobile.com
  • "The only change we could gripe about is the $800 price increase for the 2007 Boxster S, but $800 doesn't even really register to the Porsche faithful who over the years have grown accustomed to paying extra for everything from floor mats to the privilege of being able to buy a Club Sport Porsche without a radio and a passenger's-side sun visor. Yes, that $800 pill should be easy to swallow considering the Cayman S still costs almost $3500 more." -- Car and Driver
