The Cayenne Is a Great SUV, but What Are Your Other Options?

The 2018 Porsche Cayenne is ranked near the top of the luxury midsize SUV class thanks to its high-quality interior, available high-horsepower engines, and driving dynamics that rival most sports cars. It has also received high predicted reliability marks from J.D. Power.

This kind of luxury and athleticism does not come cheap. The Cayenne’s starting price (just over $60,000) is higher than most of its competitors’. The top-of-the-line Cayenne Turbo S, with 570 horsepower, is more than two-and-a-half times as expensive, at $161,600.

The Cayenne is a brilliant sporty luxury SUV, but there are others that might fit your family’s needs. Other luxury SUVs from German brands, such as the 2017 Mercedes-Benz GLE and 2017 BMW X5, have more cargo space. The 2017 Land Rover Discovery is a very capable off-road vehicle, while the high-performance 2017 Tesla Model X doesn’t use a drop of gasoline. And it’s possible to find luxury at a much lower price, as in the 2017 Nissan Murano.

We’ve compared nearly a dozen models to the Porsche Cayenne, including its smaller sibling, the 2018 Porsche Macan, to help you ferret out the differences between some very close competition.
