2007 Pontiac Torrent Overview

Like its Chevrolet Equinox and Saturn VUE siblings, the 2007 Pontiac Torrent is a competent but unexciting option in the compact SUV and crossover segment. Pluses include exceptional roominess and a comfortable ride, but critics find that the Torrent's driving performance doesn't live up to its sporty exterior. Car and Driver sums up the Pontiac Torrent best by saying that "This isn't a vehicle for enthusiasts, but like the Equinox, it's competent, versatile, well equipped, and good-looking."

The Torrent straddles the line between compact and midsize SUV classes. While it costs a few thousand more than the smaller RAV4 and CR-V, it's a very low-priced option when compared to midsize competitors such as the Ford Edge and Honda Pilot. Most critics share the Washington Post's view that it offers "good value" as a family SUV, with a standard 3.4-liter V6 engine and optional AWD. IntelliChoice gives the 2007 Pontiac Torrent a rating of "average" for its predicted five-year total cost of ownership, compared to other vehicles in its class.
