2012 Nissan Rogue Interior Review

Note: This interior review was created when the 2012 Nissan Rogue was new.

Interior: 7.6

Given its price, the 2012 Nissan Rogue has a nice interior, but the interiors of competitors are nicer. Reviewers are especially impressed that the cargo hold has dividers and a plastic tub. The Rogue has seating for five, but reviewers say that not all occupants will be comfortable.

  • "Inside its cabin, the high-quality finish of the dash, doors and seats give this economy crossover a fairly upscale feel." -- Edmunds
  • "The 2012 Rogue crossover's interior is typically Nissan, with simple and straightforward instruments, subtle seating fabric and lots of soft-touch finishes." -- Kelley Blue Book
  • "The cabin is filled with hard- and soft-touch surfaces. They don't impart a cheap feeling, but they're not pace-setting either." -- Consumer Guide

The Rogue seats five, but most reviewers think only four will be comfortable because the back seat is too cramped for three. Up front, most adults will be comfortable in the Rogue, but test drivers warn that the driver will encounter poor rear visibility due to the Rogue’s thick pillars and sloping rear window.

  • "(Front Seats) Bolstered and supportive seats remain comfortable during long drives. Legroom and headroom are suitable for most adults, even beneath the sunroof housing. The very tall will probably wish for more legroom, though. Rogue's steering wheel tilts but is not telescopic, which is detrimental to comfort for some of our testers. Rear visibility is hampered by thick C-pillars and a small, raked rear window. … The cabin is not wide enough for comfortable three-abreast seating. Legroom is acceptable for the class, but headroom is tight for 6-footers, even without the sunroof." -- Consumer Guide
  • "Front-seat legroom is good for tall drivers, as is headroom. Unfortunately, the rear-seat passengers don't have the same luxury, especially when the front seats are pushed all the way back." -- Kelley Blue Book

Interior Features

The Rogue is equipped with common features for the class. Standard features on the base S model include a CD/MP3 stereo with auxiliary input, cruise control and steering wheel-mounted controls. Adding packages or upgrading to the SV trim adds satellite radio, a USB port and Bluetooth. Reviewers like that the Rogue’s technology is easy to use. This year, the Nissan Rogue has an optional Around View monitor, which uses four cameras to help the driver park more easily. Reviewers haven’t tested this feature yet.

  • "The gauges are clear, large, and well laid out. Most controls are clearly marked and easy to find at a glance. The optional navigation system includes a small screen but isn't difficult to read and most of its functions are intuitive." -- Consumer Guide
  • "Upper-level models feature steering-wheel controls for the audio and cruise that are logically arranged for quick and easy operation." -- Kelley Blue Book

The Rogue doesn’t have the most cargo space in the class, but reviewers are pleased with its 28.9 cubic feet, which expands to 57.9 cubic feet with the second row folded down. What really shines through is the Rogue’s abundance of storage spaces, which includes mesh dividers and a plastic tub in the cargo bay to keep smaller cargo organized.

  • "Above average small-item storage space." -- Consumer Guide
  • "Storage space is ample in the little Nissan Rogue and includes an oversized glove compartment as well as a hidden cargo area behind the rear seat. The Rogue's cargo hold includes mesh dividers and a plastic tub liner ideal for carrying wet or soiled clothing." -- Kelley Blue Book
