2009 Nissan Rogue Overview

When it was new, reviewers agreed that the 2009 Nissan Rogue had good performance for a compact SUV, though some thought the Rogue was underpowered, and wished it offered a V6 engine. They also complained about the Rogue’s continuously variable transmission (CVT). Despite the lack of power, test drivers found that the Rogue handled well, with little body lean and accurate steering. Additionally, both the front- and all-wheel drive Rogues get good fuel economy for the class, at 24 and 23 combined miles per gallon, respectively. The Rogue received good safety ratings.

When it was new, reviewers found the Rogue’s interior comfortable and upscale for the most part, but some thought that the rear seat was too cramped. As far as seating, test drivers felt that they were comfortable and supportive, but some said the padding didn’t hold up over long trips. The Rogue’s cargo area is also smaller than many competitors’. The Rogue lacks some of the interior convenience features of rivals, like a USB port, but reviewers found its features functional and controls easy to use. The base S model Rogue comes with standard cruise control, keyless entry and a four-speaker sound system with an auxiliary jack for MP3 players. Choosing the higher SL model will get you available features such as a seven-speaker audio system with satellite radio, steering wheel-mounted controls and a sunroof. In addition, the Rogue boasts innovative cargo features like a pop-up cargo organizer in the rear cargo area.

Other Cars to Consider

The 2009 Mazda CX-7 is one of the sportiest compact SUVs. Reviewers praised its power and handling, along with its interior design. But it gets worse fuel economy than the Rogue.

The 2009 Toyota RAV4 is a good alternative to consider due to its ample passenger space, comfortable seats, strong V6 engine option and large cargo area. It also offers a third-row seat.
