2020 Nissan Murano Interior Review

Scorecard

Interior: 6.8

The 2020 Nissan Murano comes standard with many great features, including an intuitive infotainment system with the latest in smartphone integration. This Nissan boasts a spacious interior with exceptionally comfortable seats and a refined look and feel. However, the cabin styling is a bit outdated, and the seats could use some extra thigh support. Cargo space is a little below average for the class, though the space that is there works well.

  • While offering refinement, the Murano's interior feels a bit dated -- a reminder that this vehicle has been on sale since the 2015 model year without a major redesign." -- Autotrader
  • "The Murano … is a pleasant place to spend time. The interior is airy, and the dashboard and materials are attractive. There's nice contrast between plastics, shiny trim and faux wood that is definitely identifiable as such, but has a matte finish that keeps it from being to (sic) garish or distracting." -- Autoblog (2019)
  • "That said, we did marvel at what an upscale experience the Murano offers to its occupants. Our Four Seasons stable includes a top-of-the-line Infiniti QX50 with the extra-cost Autograph interior package, and despite the Murano’s more pedestrian dash layout–which, if not exactly cutting edge, works exceptionally well–it’s instantly obvious that the two cars are closely related, and that a lot of Infiniti has rubbed off on the Murano." -- Automobile Magazine (2019)

Seating

The two-row Murano seats five. It comes standard with cloth upholstery and manually adjustable front seats. You can upgrade to synthetic or genuine leather upholstery. Other add-ons include heated and ventilated front seats, a heated steering wheel, and heated outboard rear seats.

The Murano’s quiet cabin has lots of head- and legroom in both rows, and Nissan's “Zero Gravity” seats provide outstanding comfort, though adjustable lower thigh support would be appreciated.

For installing child safety seats, there are two complete sets of LATCH connectors for the rear outboard seats, and there's an upper tether for the rear middle seat.

  • "Everyone agrees the ride is very quiet." -- Autotrader
  • "The 'Zero Gravity' seats I love so much are standard for both front and rear passengers -- except the middle seat in the rear bench, anyway." -- CNET (2019)
  • … while the Murano's seats are plush, we wish they had adjustable lower-thigh support like those in the Maxima for additional support on road trips." -- Edmunds (2019)

Interior Features

The Murano's standard NissanConnect infotainment system features an 8-inch touch screen, Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, Bluetooth, four USB ports, voice recognition, satellite radio, and six speakers. The NissanConnect infotainment system has a vibrant display with a straightforward layout and the ability to add shortcuts for frequently used menu items. You’ll also find clearly labeled dashboard controls for adjusting some settings.

Available upgrades include an 11-speaker Bose premium audio system, HD Radio, voice recognition, and an upgraded NissanConnect infotainment system with navigation. The available navigation system connects with your smartphone via an app to provide walking directions to your destination once you leave the vehicle.

Standard safety features include a rearview camera, forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, a driver drowsiness monitor, and a rear-seat alert system. Safety options include blind spot monitoring, rear cross traffic alert, adaptive cruise control, automatic high-beam headlights, rear automatic emergency braking, pedestrian detection, lane departure warning, and front and rear parking sensors.

  • "The Murano runs the automaker's NissanConnect infotainment system, which is what you'll find in pretty much everything else in the company's lineup. Here, it's housed in an 8-inch touchscreen, with a relatively easy-to-read layout and bright graphics. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are bundled as standard equipment, too." -- CNET (2019)
  • "Even with the added complexity, the updated infotainment system is still fairly easy to use. One of the highlights of the NissanConnect smartphone app is its ability to operate in a guest mode. This means you don't need to go through a complex sign-on process, which could be a boon for users who only need occasional access to the higher level functions." -- Edmunds (2019)
  • "The interior is fairly serene, and because Nissan is apparently a proponent of clearly labeled buttons, knobs, and switches, you don’t get confused when trying to perform simple tasks." -- New York Daily News (2019)

Cargo

There's 32.1 cubic feet of cargo space behind the Murano's second row and 67 cubic feet with the rear seats folded down. While those figures are a little low for the class, most reviewers are pleased with the Murano’s cargo-carrying abilities. Additionally, the easily foldable rear seats and low cargo floor make the space easy to load. A hands-free power liftgate is available.

  • "There is ample cargo space. The rear seats fold down easily to expand it further, and the cargo-area floor is at a convenient height for loading. Bag hooks and tie down loops help with securing items." -- Consumer Reports (2018)
  • "Overall space is similar to that of the Ford Edge and the Jeep Grand Cherokee. The split rear seats fold completely flat, and the quick-release and power-folding mechanism is convenient to have. You'll have no problem loading bikes or a 10-foot surfboard front to back." -- Edmunds (2018)
