2019 Nissan Murano

2019 Nissan Murano Interior Review

Interior: 7.0

The 2019 Nissan Murano comes with a generous list of standard technology, including an easy-to-use infotainment system with smartphone integration. The Murano really shines when it comes to interior refinement. The cabin has a premium look and features cushy seats with plenty of support and enough space for adults in both the first and second row. However, the seats could use some extra thigh support.

  • "The Murano may not be exciting to drive, but it is a pleasant place to spend time. The interior is airy, and the dashboard and materials are attractive. There's nice contrast between plastics, shiny trim and faux wood that is definitely identifiable as such, but has a matte finish that keeps it from being to (sic) garish or distracting." -- Autoblog
  • "… we did marvel at what an upscale experience the Murano offers to its occupants. Our Four Seasons stable includes a top-of-the-line Infiniti QX50 with the extra-cost Autograph interior package, and despite the Murano’s more pedestrian dash layout—which, if not exactly cutting edge, works exceptionally well—it’s instantly obvious that the two cars are closely related, and that a lot of Infiniti has rubbed off on the Murano." -- Automobile Magazine
  • "The diamond-quilted semi-aniline leather in the Platinum trim is decidedly decadent, and the interior materials are indeed impressive." -- New York Daily News

Five people can fit into the 2-row Murano. It comes standard with cloth upholstery and manually adjustable front seats. Leather upholstery, heated and ventilated front seats, heated outboard rear seats, and a heated steering wheel are available. There's plenty of room in both rows, and Nissan's Zero Gravity seats provide superb comfort and support. One negative is that thigh support is limited in both rows.

There are two sets of LATCH car-seat connectors on the rear outboard seats, and there's an upper tether on the rear middle seat.

  • "The 'Zero Gravity' seats I love so much are standard for both front and rear passengers -- except the middle seat in the rear bench, anyway." -- CNET
  • "The driving position is a bit strange, as you sit very far from the windshield and instruments, but it's comfortable and there's plenty of head- and legroom. The rear seats are spacious, too." -- Autoblog
  • "… while the Murano's seats are plush, we wish they had adjustable lower-thigh support like those in the Maxima for additional support on road trips." -- Edmunds

Interior Features

The Murano is equipped with a good selection of features in the base trim. The standard NissanConnect infotainment system is praised for being both user-friendly and intuitive. The system includes an 8-inch touch screen, Bluetooth, four USB ports, six speakers, Android Auto, and Apple CarPlay. The touch screen can be customized with shortcuts to frequently used menus. You'll also find handy physical controls near the center of the control panel. Available features include an 11-speaker Bose premium audio system, satellite radio, HD Radio, and voice recognition. The revised available navigation system sends directions to your smartphone via an app to guide you to your destination once you exit the vehicle.

For 2019, Nissan added a standard driver drowsiness monitor and a rear-seat alert system. Other standard active safety features include a rearview camera, forward collision warning, and automatic emergency braking. Available advanced safety features include blind spot monitoring, rear cross traffic alert, and adaptive cruise control. High-beam assist, rear automatic braking, pedestrian detection, lane departure warning, front and rear parking sensors, and LED fog lights are also newly available.

  • "The Murano runs the automaker's NissanConnect infotainment system, which is what you'll find in pretty much everything else in the company's lineup. Here, it's housed in an 8-inch touchscreen, with a relatively easy-to-read layout and bright graphics. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are bundled as standard equipment, too." -- CNET
  • "Even with the added complexity, the updated infotainment system is still fairly easy to use. One of the highlights of the NissanConnect smartphone app is its ability to operate in a guest mode. This means you don't need to go through a complex sign-on process, which could be a boon for users who only need occasional access to the higher level functions." -- Edmunds
  • "The interior is fairly serene, and because Nissan is apparently a proponent of clearly labeled buttons, knobs, and switches, you don’t get confused when trying to perform simple tasks." -- New York Daily News

There's 32.1 cubic feet of cargo space behind the Murano's second row, and folding the rear seats down creates 67 cubic feet of space. Compared to class rivals, these numbers are a little low, but critics think the Murano still offers plenty of space. Additionally, Nissan makes loading cargo easier by providing a low cargo floor. You can also add a hands-free power liftgate.

  • "There is ample cargo space. The rear seats fold down easily to expand it further, and the cargo-area floor is at a convenient height for loading. Bag hooks and tie down loops help with securing items." -- Consumer Reports (2018)
  • "Overall space is similar to that of the Ford Edge and the Jeep Grand Cherokee. The split rear seats fold completely flat, and the quick-release and power-folding mechanism is convenient to have. You'll have no problem loading bikes or a 10-foot surfboard front to back." -- Edmunds (2018)
