2017 Nissan Murano Interior Review

Note: This interior review was created when the 2017 Nissan Murano was new.

Scorecard

Interior: 8.9

The 2017 Nissan Murano boasts one of the most luxurious cabins in the class, with its first-rate materials and elegant, swooping dashboard styling. Its seats are some of the most comfortable around, and there's plenty of space for adults in both rows. The Nissan Murano's dashboard controls are easy to operate, as is its infotainment system. Rearward visibility is hindered by the Murano's thick roof pillars, but visibility is good out of the front and side windows. Cargo capacity is on par with that of most competing SUVs.

  • "This is where Nissan put a lot of time and effort. There isn't a straight line in sight, with big, sweeping curves, and even the surfaces that you know are hard appear to be soft." -- Kelley Blue Book
  • "Once seated, you'll notice how the Murano is noticeably more upscale than the typical compact crossover (think Nissan's Rogue) thanks to plenty of high-quality materials and standard features." -- Edmunds (2016)
  • "The new interior feels posh and upscale, with well-tailored leather upholstery and soft-touch trim." -- MSN Autos (2015)

Seating

Nissan's NASA-inspired "Zero Gravity" seats are incredibly comfortable, with some reviewers calling them the best seats available. There's also plenty of room for adults in both rows.

The Murano has good visibility out of the front and side windows, but its rearward visibility, especially to the sides, is hindered by its large roof pillars. Poor rearward visibility is fairly typical of midsize SUVs, so the Murano's standard rearview camera is a much-appreciated asset.

The 2017 Nissan Murano seats five and comes standard with cloth upholstery. Available features include power-adjustable front seats, heated and ventilated front seats, a heated steering wheel, and heated rear seats.

The Murano's LATCH system consists of complete sets of lower anchors and upper tethers in the rear outboard seats and an upper tether in the rear middle seat.

  • "Evidence the Murano is intended for adults is found in the accommodating ‘zero gravity’ seats at the four outboard seating positions." -- Kelley Blue Book
  • "Nissan calls them 'Zero Gravity' seats because they are designed to contour to the position the body assumes in zero gravity. Here on 1-G Earth, we think they are among the finest seats on the market." -- Edmunds (2016)
  • Visibility is decent to the front corners and good to the sides, but the rear corners suffer huge blind spots due to unusually thick roof pillars." -- Consumer Guide (2015)

Interior Features

The Murano's standard features list includes a rearview camera, dual-zone automatic climate control, a six-speaker audio system, a USB port, satellite radio, Bluetooth, and a NissanConnect infotainment system with a 7-inch display.

Available features include a panoramic moonroof, an 11-speaker Bose audio system, HD Radio, adaptive cruise control, forward collision warning, automatic pre-collision braking, Nissan's Around View 360-degree camera system, and an upgraded version of NissanConnect with an 8-inch touch screen and navigation. Apple CarPlay is newly available for 2017.

Frequently used dashboard controls, like audio and climate, have straightforward traditional buttons that are easy to reach and make it simple to quickly change the radio station, music volume, or temperature. The upgraded infotainment system's larger screen has crisp graphics, is fast, and has intuitive menus.

  • "Controls for the infotainment and climate systems are refreshingly simple and easy to reach, at least when compared to other high-end vehicles. The infotainment system includes several real-life buttons and knobs (gasp) that augment other touchscreen controls." -- Consumer Guide (2015)
  • "The 8-inch color touch-screen - standard on SV trims and higher - has terrific resolution and is completely rethought from previous generations, which I always found easy to use." -- Cars.com (2015)
  • "In the middle, there's a clean center console with a large touchscreen interface that facilitates a serious reduction of buttons versus previous Nissan interiors. Everything here is easy to use, with buttons and knobs exactly where you expect them. And the touchscreen system is clean, vibrant, and most importantly, responsive." -- Autoblog (2015)

Cargo

Behind its back seats, the 2017 Nissan Murano has 31.1 cubic feet of space. With those seats folded, cargo room increases to 67 cubic feet. Those measurements are typical for both 2- and 3-row midsize SUVs.

The Murano's 60/40 split-folding back seats are easy to collapse, thanks to the simple spring pull-lever in its cargo bay. The rear seats are also available with a feature that allows you to raise them at the press of a button. A power liftgate is optional.

  • Behind the rear seat is over 30 cubic feet of space, and flipping the rear seat flat offers over 65 cubic feet." -- Kelley Blue Book
  • "There's also an abundance of interior room in front and back with a generous cargo area, whether the rear seats are in place … or folded flat." -- Cars.com (2015)
  • "… it's very easy to fold down the spring-loaded rear seatbacks. Just touch the appropriate latch in the cargo area and the seatbacks shoot down flat. Another push button powers them back up." -- MSN Autos (2015)
