Scorecard

Performance: 9.1

Test drivers agree that the 2015 Nissan GT-R is one of the fastest and most agile cars on the market. They add that a number of improvements to the suspension system for 2015 have made the car even more comfortable to drive on a day-to-day basis.

  • "The Nissan GT-R is a giant killer, a supercar that offers the kind of extreme performance that can normally only be achieved by ultra-pricey exotics." -- Left Lane News
  • "At the heart of every GT-R is an extremely potent twin-turbo V6, a fast-shifting automated manual gearbox, sport-tuned suspension, powerful Brembo brakes and a sophisticated all-wheel-drive system. All these elements come together to make the 2015 Nissan GT-R an extremely capable sports car." -- AutoTrader
  • "While it is still powerful as all get-out, the entire experience is, indeed, greatly refined. The suspension is noticeably smoother than previous GT-Rs, yet it remained just as responsive." -- AutoWeek
  • "… the more compliant ride, lighter steering effort at low speeds and quieter interior put this latest GT-R on a stronger footing with more expensive rivals from European luxury brands. Thankfully, these upgrades don't take away from the impressive performance that has made the GT-R the object of gearhead fantasies since its U.S. debut five years ago." -- Edmunds

Acceleration and Power

The 2015 Nissan GT-R comes standard with a twin-turbocharged 3.8-liter V6 engine that puts out 545 horsepower and 463 pound-feet of torque. The new NISMO trim has a twin-turbocharged 3.8-liter V6 that has been tuned to produce 600 horsepower and 481 pound-feet of torque. A six-speed dual-clutch automated manual transmission is standard in all GT-R models. According to the EPA, the 2015 GT-R gets up to 16/23 mpg city/highway, which is decent compared to the fuel economy of rivals.

According to auto writers, the GT-R offers extraordinary acceleration. Many note that its 0-to-60 time is less than three seconds, which is excellent for a car in this class. According to test drivers, all of that power feels manageable thanks to the GT-R's high-tech driving aids, which include all-wheel drive and electronic stability control. They also appreciate the quick gear changes from the GT-R's dual-clutch transmission.

  • "You can still nail the gas pedal to summon the soul of Godzilla, at which point you reel in the horizon at an astounding pace." -- Car and Driver
  • "From a speed and acceleration standpoint, the GT-R is as good as it gets, with blindingly fast straight-line performance and tire-melting torque." -- AutoTrader
  • "Floor it, and this coupe throws you back in your seat - that's what happens when you have the ability to blast to 60 mph in under three seconds. This blunt force would be terrifying if not for the GT-R's array of mechanical and electronic chassis systems intended to keep both car and driver safe at high speeds." -- Kelley Blue Book
  • "The turbo V6 produces acceleration that's not unlike the jump to warp speed, while the transmission rips off rapid and perfectly rev-matched gearchanges." -- Edmunds

Handling and Braking

The 2015 Nissan GT-R comes standard with all-wheel drive and a three-mode suspension system that lets you choose between Normal, Comfort and R (Sport) modes. Test drivers say that with nicely weighted steering, incredibly strong brakes and seemingly limitless cornering grip, it is easy to take the GT-R down twisty roads at very high speeds. Reviewers report that this year's upgrades to the GT-R's suspension have yielded a more comfortable driving experience, noting that the GT-R has a smoother ride than many rivals.

  • "My speed increased with each run as I grew more comfortable with the road and more confident that I knew the vehicle's limits-if it even has any. Not once did a wheel chirp, and not once did the car break loose." -- Popular Mechanics
  • "This is also an exotic that remains remarkably easy to drive fast. Chuck the GT-R into a corner, any corner, and it sticks through the bend and rockets out the other side." -- Edmunds
  • "The GT-R offers an easygoing ride thanks to a driver-tunable vehicle dynamics system. In normal mode, the car takes on a less rigid personality, making it viable for daily commuting or interstate cruising. Everyday comfort is something that many vehicles in this category can't claim." -- AutoTrader
  • "… Nissan's supercar remains much more than a straight-line performer. Its cornering grip borders on surreal. The car's adjustable suspension, well-weighted steering and stop-me-now Brembo brakes all work to make the GT-R thrilling when pushed. …" -- Kelley Blue Book
  • "The latest model year brings suspension, steering and brake revisions that make daily driving a bit more comfortable without adversely affecting performance." -- Left Lane News
