Buying Advice

Last Updated: May 31, 2019

Slow Sales: The Nissan Frontier has endured over a decade without a redesign, and sales figures may suggest that shoppers are more interested in the compact pickup truck segment’s newer competitors. Dealerships have moved 12.3% fewer Frontier models so far this year compared to the same sales period in 2018. The dominant Toyota Tacoma is outselling the Frontier more than 3 to 1.

Low Prices: The Frontier’s base price of $18,990 is the lowest in the segment. However, its value is questionable, as a base Frontier lacks basic amenities like air conditioning and power locks. Be prepared to spend several thousands of dollars above the alluringly-low base price to add basic features to your Frontier. A crew-cab model equipped with an automatic transmission will cost you $26,000.

Time to Buy: While bargain prices and slowing demand may seem attractive to buyers on a budget, we strongly suggest spending a little more to get a much better truck. Consider the Chevy Colorado instead. Its base model comes standard with basics like power locks and windows, along with newer features like smartphone integration and a rearview camera.
