2009 Nissan Frontier Overview

When it was new, reviewers praised the Nissan Frontier for its refined ride and great off-road capability, as well as its smooth powertrains. Reviewers thought acceleration with the base four-cylinder engine is adequate, though most preferred the available V6. The Frontier gets up to 19/23 mpg city/highway, which is slightly less than what some competing trucks get. The four-cylinder Frontier comes with either a manual or automatic transmission and rear-wheel drive. The V6-powered Frontier is available with a manual or automatic transmission, as well as rear- or four-wheel drive. When properly equipped, the 2009 Frontier can tow up to 6,500 pounds.

The Frontier is available in King cab (extended) and crew cab configurations, which seat four and five, respectively. Most reviewers dismissed the King cab’s rear jump seats as only suitable for small children, while the crew cab’s rear bench seat received mixed reviews for both comfort and available space. Reviewers were generally pleased with the Frontier’s cabin and appreciated its straightforward, functional design. Still, some griped about the use of some cheap plastics, which is a fairly common complaint for the class. Available features include power windows, door locks and mirrors, leather upholstery, heated front seats, a cargo management system for the bed, a 10-speaker stereo with satellite radio, Bluetooth and navigation.

Other Trucks to Consider

The 2009 Toyota Tacoma has higher safety scores than the Frontier, and reviewers liked the Tacoma’s comfortable ride and high-quality cabin. Like the Frontier, the Tacoma is available with a powerful V6 engine, and it offers similar towing abilities when properly equipped.

The 2009 Ford Explorer Sport Trac is a crew cab pickup that reviewers considered spacious and upscale. They also liked the Sport Trac’s refined ride, and an available V8 gives the Explorer Sport Trac one of the highest towing capacities in the class.
