2009 Nissan Cube Overview

Reviewers said the 2009 Nissan Cube’s edgy profile is unlike anything else, and the interior features quirky touches like shag carpeting on the dash. In addition to being unique, the Cube is practical. Test drivers gave its front seats good marks for comfort, and the rear seats are also pretty spacious for the class.

The Cube has a lot of standard features for a 2009 small car. The cabin comes standard with power windows and door locks and air conditioning. Higher trims and optional packages add Bluetooth, an iPod interface, steering-wheel mounted audio controls, MP3 playback capability and a rearview camera. There’s also an impressive amount of standard safety equipment, including electronic stability control and electronic brake-force distribution, which aren’t standard on many competitors.

Test drivers said the Cube’s four-cylinder engine has enough power for day-to-day driving, but though the Cube has good maneuverability, it’s not very sporty. At high speeds and on twisty roads, reviewers complained about the Cube’s power and handling. At 28/30 mpg city/highway, the Cube’s fuel economy ratings aren’t the highest in the class, but they aren’t bad for a boxy car with a lot of available cargo space. The Cube’s crash test scores are above-average.

Other Cars to Consider

The highly-ranked 2009 Scion xB is another car with boxy styling and a lot of space for cargo and passengers. The xB also has decent fuel economy ratings for such a boxy car.

The 2009 Honda Fit does nearly everything the Cube can, but with better performance. Reviewers praised the Fit for its spacious five-seat cabin and heaps of cargo space. The Fit’s safety scores are excellent, but you have to choose a higher trim to get electronic stability control, which is standard on the Cube.
