2015 Nissan Armada Review

The 2015 Nissan Armada ranks near the bottom of the class due to its cumbersome handling, low fuel economy, and limited cargo space. Additionally, more recently designed classmates feel much fresher than the Armada, contributing to the Nissan's low ranking.

Pros & Cons

  • Punchy highway passing power
  • Upscale interior

  • Clumsy handling
  • Subpar gas mileage
  • Limited cargo room

2015 Nissan Armada Overview

Is the 2015 Nissan Armada a Good Used SUV?

The Armada may have a potent V8 engine and an upmarket interior, but its negatives outweigh its positives. Most rivals have better handling, more cargo room, and better fuel economy estimates. Several large SUVs also have more third-row passenger space. You can do better than the 2015 Armada.

Used 2015 Nissan Armada Performance and Interior

A brawny 5.6-liter V8 engine gives the Armada ample power for overtaking vehicles on the highway, though acceleration from a stop is a bit slower. The five-speed automatic transmission makes silky shifts. A rear-wheel-drive Armada only gets 13 mpg in the city and 19 mpg on the highway; most rivals are more fuel-efficient. Due to its large size, the Armada feels clumsy around corners, and it's tough to maneuver in small areas. Still, the ride is smooth, especially on the highway.

The Armada's cabin is fitted with high-end materials that match those found in many luxury-badged vehicles. In standard configuration, there are eight seats in three rows. Available second-row captain's chairs drop seating capacity to seven. The first- and second-row seats are comfortable and roomy, but the cramped third row only has enough room for children. There are full sets of LATCH connectors on the outboard second-row seats, with an additional upper tether on the middle third-row seat.

Like most full-size SUVs, the Armada has many standard features, including dual-zone automatic climate control, satellite radio, an eight-speaker audio system, Bluetooth phone connectivity, and a USB port. Available features include an 11-speaker Bose audio system, Bluetooth streaming audio, a rear-seat entertainment system, and a 7-inch touch-screen infotainment system with navigation. Lower trims have logically arranged physical controls, though some are hard to reach. The available navigation system adds more buttons that clutter the center stack. With a maximum 97.1 cubic feet of cargo space, the Armada has less room for your stuff than most competitors do.

Should I Consider Another Used Armada?

The 2015 Armada is unchanged from 2013 and 2014 models. The 2015 model year is also the last of the generation, which dates back to the 2004 model year. A fully redesigned Armada debuted for the 2017 model year.

Which Used Nissan Armada Is Right for Me?

The well-equipped base SV model should satisfy most buyers, but if you want a bit more luxury, step up to the SL trim. The Armada SL adds leather upholstery, heated front seats, power-folding third-row seats, a Bose audio system, and a power liftgate. The range-topping Platinum model adds a 7-inch touch-screen infotainment system, navigation, Bluetooth streaming audio, heated second-row seats, and a heated steering wheel. If you want the available second-row captain's chairs, you'll have to buy a Platinum model.

You may want to consider a certified pre-owned Armada. For its CPO vehicles, Nissan extends the original new-car warranty to seven years or 100,000 miles. To become certified pre-owned, each vehicle must pass a 167-point inspection. Additional benefits like towing and roadside assistance may be available, so read the Nissan warranty page carefully.

2015 Nissan Armada and Other SUVs to Consider

Which Is Better: 2015 Nissan Armada or 2015 Ford Expedition?

Despite a lower predicted reliability rating and a humdrum interior, we think the Ford Expedition is a better large SUV. The Expedition has a peppy turbo V6 engine that's more powerful and fuel-efficient than the Armada's V8. The Ford has better handling than the Armada too. It has confidence-inspiring cornering abilities, staying level and composed through turns. The cabin has relatively low-rent materials, but the seats in all three rows are roomy, with the third row offering enough space for two adults. The Expedition handily beats the Armada's cargo space, too, with up to 130.8 cubic feet of cargo room in the long-wheelbase Expedition EL.

Which Is Better: 2015 Nissan Armada or 2015 Toyota Sequoia?

The Toyota Sequoia is a better choice than the Armada. The Sequoia has a potent V8 engine that delivers brisk acceleration, though it uses a bit more fuel than the Armada's V8. The Toyota has comfortable, composed handling. Inside, the Sequoia doesn't feel as high-end as the Armada, but it has nice materials throughout. There's plenty of room for adults in the Sequoia's third row, and more cargo space, too. The Sequoia has many more standard features than the Armada, including a standard touch-screen infotainment system. Finally, the Sequoia has a higher predicted reliability rating than the Armada.
