Buying Advice

Last Updated: March 21, 2019

Declining Sales: Sales of the Nissan Altima place behind the Honda Accord and Toyota Camry in the midsize car class. There’s a lot of ground to make up, as 28.8 percent fewer Altima models have been sold so far this year compared to the same period in 2018. However, the Altima was reintroduced with a full redesign for the 2019 model year to compete with other redesigned class leaders, so demand may begin to heat up in the near future.

Average Prices: The Altima’s starting price of $23,900 is about average for the class. A top-tier Altima starts at $34,780, which is also about average for the class.

Time to Buy: With a brand new model now on dealership lots, the best deals are likely to be found on the outgoing 2018 model. For the best finance and lease offers in your area, check out this month’s Nissan deals. If you’re not set on the Altima, consider a Honda Accord, which has a lower starting price and a higher ranking in the midsize car segment than the Nissan. The Accord was also just named the 2019 Best Midsize Car for Families, so you can feel good knowing you’re driving a great car home from the dealership.
