The Eclipse Is Back, But This Time It’s an SUV, Not a Sports Car

If the name Mitsubishi Eclipse rings a bell, it probably calls back memories of grunge rock and dial-up internet. The Eclipse was one of the most popular sports cars of the 1990s, and its run lasted well into the new millennium.

Well, the all-new 2018 Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross, which goes on sale in March, is not that. Neither sporty nor a car, the Eclipse Cross is a small, two-row SUV that stakes most of its appeal on its looks and technology as opposed to its performance or utility.

Positioned between the Outlander Sport subcompact crossover and the Outlander compact crossover in Mitsubishi’s lineup, the Eclipse Cross offers comfortable seating with a clever rear seat, a good list of available technology, and a little more pizazz than you’ll find in the rest of the Mitsubishi lineup.

Just don’t expect it to outrun any of those 90s Eclipses.
