Honda Hopes the Third Time’s the Charm for Their Prius Rival

When the 2019 Honda Insight concept was shown at the Detroit Auto Show in early 2018, you might have thought the name sounded familiar. And you would be right – this is the third time Honda has used the Insight name for a hybrid vehicle.

In 1999, the Honda Insight was the first hybrid to be sold in America, beating the Toyota Prius, which was only sold in Japan at the time. In the mid-2000s, the first generation was taken out of production, but a new redesigned Insight was soon in the works. It lasted from 2010 to 2014 as a five-door hatchback similar to the Prius.

Now we have the all-new and completely different 2019 Honda Insight hybrid. It looks nothing like a Prius; it’s been designed as a compact sedan with a trunk. It fits in the lineup between the Honda Civic and Honda Accord.

Let’s take a look at what we know so far about this latest incarnation. Maybe the third time will be the charm.
