NACTOY Finalists Announced With New SUV Category

Ahead of the Los Angeles Auto Show, which begins in a few days, the finalists for the 2017 North American Car, Truck, and Utility Vehicle of the Year (NACTOY) Awards were announced.

A jury of nearly 60 automotive journalists from across the United States and Canada, including Jamie Page Deaton, the Managing Editor of U.S. News Best Cars, chose the finalists for this year's awards. The members of the NACTOY jury write for a wide range of automotive publications, leading to a diverse set of viewpoints working together to select the winners.

The finalists for this year reflect that diversity, with NACTOY President Mark Phelan remarking, "The finalists embody the hottest trends in the auto industry: electrification, fuel economy, booming SUV sales, autonomous driving technology, and increasing choices among luxury vehicles and pickups."

Since 1994, NACTOY has recognized the best cars and trucks on the market, and for 2017, an additional award has been added to recognize the best utility vehicles, as well. The winning car, truck, and utility vehicle will be announced early next year. In the meantime, check out the finalists in the following slides and see how each vehicle fares in U.S. News & World Report's new vehicle rankings.
