No matter how a new car looks, drives, sounds, smells, or feels, it’s not going to be much use to you for very long if it’s unreliable. To keep it in good working order may end up costing you more than you’re willing to pay. This is why we factor vehicle reliability ratings into our scoring and ranking formula.

Whether you choose an inexpensive commuter car or a pricey sports car, you’ll likely have an expectation that your hard-earned money was well spent and the car will remain free of any major issues for some time. However, sifting through the long list of cars on the market today and researching the overall dependability of each model can be time-consuming and frustrating.

We rely on J.D. Power predicted reliability ratings for our new car rankings. J.D. Power uses multiple studies and a statistical formula to determine how dependable each new car is expected to be.

The following list includes all 2019 cars, trucks, minivans, and SUVs that earn a predicted reliability rating of at least four out of five. We’ve ranked them from least reliable to most reliable. For vehicles that received the same predicted reliability rating, we gave the win to those with a higher overall U.S. News score and/or a less expensive starting price.

Remember that our scores change on a continual basis as new data and expert research become available. So, the scores in this article may not match up with those in our new car rankings.
