Check Out 2019’s Thriftiest 3-Row Crossovers

Common sense dictates that the more weight you’re carrying around, the more fuel you’re going to burn, so finding an efficient three-row SUV takes a little legwork. We’ll get you started with this slideshow of 12 SUVs that get at least 22 mpg combined.

Even among the relatively small field of three-row vehicles, you’ll find a lot of variation. Though most of the models on this list are midsize SUVs, some compacts have found their way in. Most have seating for seven passengers, though a couple can be configured for six, and some others for eight. As is typical for three-row SUVs, some are more spacious inside than they look, while others are on the cramped side.

This list is arranged according to the EPA’s combined city/highway mpg rating for each model’s most efficient configuration. The most efficient configuration is usually, but not necessarily, the base trim.

There are a few instances in which the most fuel-efficient trim of a vehicle is significantly more expensive than the base trim. In those cases, we decided that the marginal increase in fuel economy didn’t justify the large price increase, and we’ve included the cheaper version.

In the event of a tie, the vehicle with the lower price takes the lead. Spoiler alert: There are a lot of ties.

We mention the U.S. News overall score for each vehicle to give you an idea of its overall quality. Keep in mind that our scores change constantly as new expert data and reviews become available.
