Buying Advice

Last Updated: June 21, 2019

Low, Steady Sales: The Mitsubishi Outlander’s sales have remained consistent this year relative to the same period in 2018. However, sales are second to last in the compact SUV class, just in front of its sibling the Eclipse Cross. Many shoppers look past this crossover in favor of the other options in the segment. The class sales leading Chevy Equinox is outselling the Outlander by more than 7 to 1 in 2019.

Competitive Base Price: A base Outlander costs $24,695, which is roughly average for gas-only compact SUVs. Similarly, at the top of the lineup, the Outlander GT’s price ($41,495) is just over $6,000 more than the norm for fully-loaded alternatives, making it one of the most expensive models in the segment.

Time to Buy: We strongly recommend any other alternative over the Outlander. For about $750 less, you can get the well-ranked Hyundai Tucson. You can also get the top-ranked Honda CR-V for $345 less. Nearly every other option in this competitive class is a better buy than the Outlander. Check out our Hyundai deals and Honda deals pages for the best financing and lease offers on these two options. If neither of these crossovers interest you, head back to our compact SUV rankings for other excellent options in the class.
