2015 Mitsubishi Outlander Overview

Is the 2015 Mitsubishi Outlander a Good Used SUV?

There is little to recommend about the 3-row 2015 Mitsubishi Outlander. Its safety scores are good, but other compact SUVs like the Mazda CX-5 perform better. The base four-cylinder engine has sluggish acceleration, which only improves marginally with the available V6. Its predicted reliability is below average and its interior, while appealing to some, suffers from substandard materials.

Used 2015 Mitsubishi Outlander Performance and Interior

The base Outlander has a 166-horsepower four-cylinder engine that doesn’t offer much power. Even the top-level GT S trim, with its 224-horsepower V6, doesn’t feel particularly quick on the highway. Front-wheel drive is standard, and all-wheel drive is available. The 2015 Outlander has fairly poised handling, and it shows decent agility through turns.

The base 2015 Outlander gets an EPA-estimated 25 mpg in the city and 30 mpg on the highway, which is good for the class. The all-wheel-drive V6 Outlander gets 20 mpg in the city and 27 mpg on the highway.

The 2015 Outlander seats seven and comes with cloth upholstery. Upper trims may come with leatherette or leather upholstery, heated front seats, or a power-adjustable driver’s seat. The front seats offer long-haul comfort and support, as well as plenty of space. Its second row slides and reclines, and there's plenty of legroom, even for tall adults. Like most 3-row compact SUVs, however, the Outlander's third row isn't roomy enough for most adults. There are complete LATCH systems for child seats in the second-row outboard seats; the middle seat has an upper-tether anchor. The third row has no LATCH hardware.

The 2015 Outlander comes standard with a six-speaker stereo, automatic climate control, Bluetooth, a USB port, and Mitsubishi's voice-activated hands-free system. Available features include dual-zone automatic climate control, a rear-seat entertainment system, a 6.1-inch touch-screen display, navigation with a 7-inch touch screen, and a nine-speaker Rockford Fosgate stereo system. It can be difficult to input addresses into the available navigation system; many rival systems are easier to use.

Should I Consider Another Used Outlander?

The 2015 Mitsubishi Outlander is part of the SUV’s third generation, which launched for 2014 and includes the 2017 model year. The addition of a standard hands-free infotainment system makes the 2015 model a better choice than the 2014.

Which Used Mitsubishi Outlander Is Right for Me?

The 2015 Mitsubishi Outlander seats seven. Front-wheel drive is standard, and all-wheel drive is available. The Outlander comes in four trims: ES, SE, SE S-AWC, and GT S-AWC. The base ES includes a six-speaker stereo, automatic climate control, Bluetooth, and Mitsubishi's voice-activated Fuse Hands-free Link system. The SE trim adds heated front seats, leatherette and fabric upholstery, dual-zone automatic climate control, and push-button start. The SE S-AWC trim has all-wheel drive and HD Radio. The main features of the GT S-AWC, besides all-wheel drive, are a 224-horsepower V6 engine and a six-speed automatic transmission. The SE trim makes the most sense because of its comfort features.

Because of its below-average predicted reliability, you might want to consider a certified pre-owned Outlander. Mitsubishi certified pre-owned vehicles receive the balance of the original new-car 10-year/100,000-mile powertrain warranty. To become certified pre-owned, each vehicle must pass a 123-point inspection. Additional benefits like towing and roadside assistance may be available, so read the Mitsubishi warranty page carefully.
