Buying Advice

Last Updated: April 26, 2019

Steady Sales: Sales of the Mitsubishi Outlander Sport sit in the lower half of the subcompact SUV class. The class sales leader, the Subaru Crosstrek, is outselling the Outlander Sport more than 2 to 1. This year, Outlander Sport sales have fallen 18.4 percent relative to the same span last year.

Competitive Prices: A base Outlander Sport with an automatic transmission starts at $22,145, which is just over the class average. You can save $1,200 if you opt for a manual transmission. Additionally, the top-trim Outlander Sport pricing comes in just over $26,000, which is roughly $2,000 below the class’s top-trim average.

Time to Buy: There is little reason to choose the Outlander Sport over almost any other option in this class. There are multiple alternatives that have better performance, more features, and a more comfortable and attractive cabin – all for less money. If price is your main concern, buy a Mazda CX-3. Starting at just $20,390 with an automatic transmission, it is one of the least expensive options in the class and just over $1,200 less than the Outlander Sport. It was also a finalist for the 2019 Best Subcompact SUV for the Money award. If you have a bit more to spend, consider the top-ranked Honda HR-V. Check out the current financing and lease offers for both options on the Honda deals and Mazda deals pages.
