Buying Advice

Last Updated: December 12, 2019

Rising Sales: Sales of the Mitsubishi Mirage rank in the upper third of the subcompact car segment, and dealerships have moved 11.7 percent more models so far in 2019 compared to the same period last year. Still, the segment sales-leading Nissan Versa is outselling the Mirage more than 2 to 1.

Very Low Prices: At a base price of $14,995 with an automatic transmission, the Mirage is among the cheapest new cars on the market, starting just above the Chevrolet Spark ($14,320). A top trim Mirage ($16,995) is also a bargain relative to other fully loaded models in the segment. However, you’ll miss out on safety technologies like blind spot monitoring, forward collision warning, and lane departure warning, all of which the Mirage lacks and are commonly available in upper trims of the Mirage’s rivals.

Time to Buy: If a low price is your top priority, the Mirage is worth a look. Otherwise, we recommend shopping around, as the Mirage carries the lowest ranking in its segment. For a couple thousand dollars more, you can bring home a better all-around vehicle like the Honda Fit or Chevy Sonic. Though they’ll cost you more, the improvements in performance, space, and technology are worth it. This month’s Honda and Chevy deals have all the best finance and lease offers.
