2011 Mitsubishi Eclipse Overview

The 2011 Eclipse is front-wheel drive, and is available as a coupe or convertible model. The base Eclipse GS has a 162-horsepower 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine. A five-speed manual transmission is standard and a four-speed automatic is available. The Eclipse GT comes with a 3.6-liter six-cylinder engine that produces 265 horsepower and an automatic transmission. The 2011 Eclipse gets up to 20/28 mpg city/highway, which is slightly above the class average. Most reviewers said the base engine is underpowered, and while they said the 3.6-liter engine feels more powerful, they disliked the torque steer they felt under hard acceleration. Test drivers said the Eclipse’s suspension provides a comfortable ride, but at the expense of sporty handling.

Reviewers liked the 2011 Mitsubishi Eclipse’s interior design, but they also said it’s constructed with cheap-looking plastics. The front seats were comfortable for most reviewers, but they said some taller people may have a hard time fitting. The back seat is cramped, and its upright seating position makes it uncomfortable, according to some reviewers. The Eclipse coupe has one of the largest trunks in the class with 15.7 cubic feet of space. The convertible model has 5.2 cubic feet of trunk space. The 2011 Mitsubishi Eclipse coupe comes standard with air conditioning, cruise control, keyless entry, full power accessories, and a six-speaker audio system with a CD player. Other available features include Bluetooth, a sunroof, heated leather front seats and a nine-speaker stereo with a six-disc CD changer.

Other Cars to Consider

The 2011 Ford Mustang is at the top of the rankings with great reliability and safety scores. Plus, it has a powerful base engine that reviewers liked. Like the Eclipse, the Mustang is also available as a coupe or convertible.

Shoppers who don’t need a back seat should check out the 2011 Mazda MX-5 Miata. Reviewers said the Miata offers nimble handling, and the Miata earns one of the best reliability scores in the class.
