Most Mitsubishi vehicles that are five years old or newer are eligible for the Mitsubishi Certified Pre-Owned program, as long as they don’t exceed 60,000 miles. However, the i-MiEV, Lancer Evolution, Lancer Ralliart, Lancer Sportback Ralliart, and Raider are excluded. In addition to the vehicle’s age and mileage requirements, it must also have a Vehicle History Report.

Inspection Process

Every certified pre-owned Mitsubishi is chosen for the program by a franchised Mitsubishi dealership. It then undergoes a 123-point inspection by a certified Mitsubishi technician employed at a CPO-enrolled dealership. The goal of the inspection is to test all facets of the vehicle to assure it adheres to the highest standards. According to Mitsubishi, not all vehicles pass, but those that do are “the best of the best.”

The inspection process includes a road test and an in-depth look at the car’s interior and exterior. Additionally, the technician inspects the vehicle’s engine compartment and its underbody. Regularly scheduled maintenance is performed, as well as any recall repairs, and the car is cleaned and detailed prior to delivery.

All certified pre-owned Mitsubishi vehicles are covered by the same 10-year/100,000-mile powertrain limited warranty as the car’s original owner, which dates back to the vehicle’s original in-service date. The new buyer also gets the remainder of the vehicle’s five-year/60,000-mile basic warranty, as well as the remainder of its seven-year/100,000-mile anti-corrosion/perforation limited warranty.

Service is available at all U.S. Mitsubishi dealerships, and covered repairs are deductible-free.

In addition to the pre-owned warranty, every certified pre-owned Mitsubishi includes free, 24-hour Roadside Assistance during the entire limited warranty period. This coverage not only applies to the new buyer, but also to all other licensed family members. During the remaining five-year new vehicle limited warranty period, buyers receive unlimited-mileage roadside assistance. It covers battery jumps starts, flat tire changes, gas deliveries, vehicle lockout assistance, and free towing to the nearest Mitsubishi dealership.

After that, during the 10-year powertrain limited warranty period, towing assistance is included if the problem is caused by a covered powertrain issue.

How Does It Compare to Rivals?

Mitsubishi’s CPO program offers a longer warranty than many rivals’ programs. For example, Toyota, Honda, and Nissan offer a seven-year/100,000-mile powertrain limited warranty and a three-year/36,000-mile new vehicle limited warranty.

Other automakers offer additional benefits, including rental car reimbursement and trip interruption insurance, which are not offered by Mitsubishi. In addition, many competing brands use a longer inspection checklist. Honda performs a 182-point inspection, while Toyota’s checklist covers 160 points.
