Fiat 500 vs. Mini Cooper

$16,245 | U.S. News Score: 7.2/10

Much like the Mini Cooper, the subcompact 2018 Fiat 500 has retro European styling and is about as unique as it gets.

The Fiat 500 doesn’t live up to the Cooper in most ways, but it does have a starting price that’s about $5,000 less. Similar to the Cooper, it comes standard with a manual transmission, and you can get it in a convertible configuration, but there is no four-door model available.

The Fiat 500 has a cramped back seat and is short on cargo space, but the Cooper falters in these areas as well. The 500 is also lacking when it comes to infotainment features and available safety technologies. In addition, its interior materials are subpar and it doesn’t come close to matching the Cooper’s driving dynamics. Still, if you’re looking for a peppy city car and you’re on a strict budget, check out the Fiat 500.
