2009 Mercury Grand Marquis Review

The 2009 Mercury Grand Marquis offers V8 power and a roomy interior. However, the Grand Marquis stumbles with an antiquated design and sloppy handling and road manners.

Pros & Cons

  • Strong standard V8
  • Roomy interior
  • Large trunk
  • Sloppy handling
  • Dated design
  • Marginal safety scores

2009 Mercury Grand Marquis Overview

The 2009 Mercury Grand Marquis is a behemoth. When it was new, reviewers said that the Grand Marquis’ styling was outdated, but it does have some redeeming qualities, including a spacious interior. Reviewers liked the powerful V8 engine, but other 2009 large cars use less fuel. The Grand Marquis is largely unchanged from the 2008 model, so you might want to shop older models to save money.

The 2009 Grand Marquis has a roomy interior that can seat six if necessary. Reviewers noted that the Grand Marquis has ample legroom, but thought that other large cars offer better comfort and driving dynamics. However, other large cars earn better safety scores.

Reviewers thought the Grand Marquis’ interior is functional, but also note that it offers the bare minimum in terms of interior features. Only one trim was offered in 2009, the LS, which includes cruise control, automatic climate control, leather upholstery and a 40/20/40 split-front bench.

Other Cars to Consider

The 2009 Ford Taurus is a great alternative to the Grand Marquis and has safety ratings. With a smaller engine, the Taurus also gets much better fuel economy than the Grand Marquis. Reviewers felt that both interiors were roomy and comfortable, but the Taurus has a more modern cabin with newer technology options, like an auxiliary input.

The 2009 Hyundai Azera should be on your list if you’re seeking a practical large car. The Azera gets slightly better fuel economy than the Grand Marquis, and it’s also more powerful. Reviewers were satisfied with the Azera’s engine power and acceleration when it was new, but they also felt that the Grand Marquis had good acceleration. The Azera also offers a modern interior with available features like satellite radio and navigation.
