2019 Mercedes-Benz GT Interior Review

Scorecard

Interior: 7.6

The 2019 Mercedes-AMG GT has an opulent cabin filled with high-end materials. There’s plenty of passenger space in both two- and four-seat versions, and there’s a decent amount of cargo space for the class. The GT also has a long list of user-friendly technology and features.

  • "The cabin is more alluring than the exterior, though; while it isn’t as airy as that of an E-class or as plush as that of an S-Class, the GT is its own animal, coming across as new and fresh as the CLS did when it bowed some 15 years ago." -- Automobile Magazine
  • "Speaking of the cabin, it's beautifully finished with soft leathers, Alcantara and gloss black trim, and offers spacious accommodations for both front and rear passengers." -- CNET
  • "As you would expect, the materials all feel incredibly high-quality, as does the fit and finish. Even better, if you're tired of faux-suede everything and carbon-fiber trim, AMG offers several interior packages that will let you decide how luxurious or sporty you want the GT 4-Door Coupe to be. " -- Motor Trend

Seating

The AMG GT Coupe and Roadster seat two people, and four-door models have four seats. Synthetic leather upholstery, heated front seats, and a Nappa leather-wrapped steering wheel are standard. Optional features include Nappa leather upholstery, ventilated front seats, AMG performance front seats, dynamic seat bolstering, a variety of performance steering wheels, rapid front-seat heating, heated front armrests and door panels, a heated steering wheel, multicontour massaging front seats, heated rear seats, and soft-close doors.

The AMG GT provides great seating accommodations for all occupants, with an impressive amount of rear-seat space in four-door models.

  • "Even with the fastback roofline, there's enough headroom for adults to comfortably sit in back, and US-market cars get two bucket seats in the rear as opposed to a three-across bench." -- CNET
  • "The seat design for both front and rear passengers further reflects the AMG GT’s dual purpose. These seats provide the same range of adjustments found on traditional luxury sedans, yet their racecar style and lateral bolstering support aggressive track driving." -- Kelley Blue Book
  • "The rear seats are also surprisingly spacious. And no, I don't mean usable. Unless they're extremely tall, two full-grown adults could easily fit back there with plenty of room." -- Motor Trend

Interior Features

Standard features in the 2019 AMG GT Coupe and Roadster include dual-zone automatic climate control and the COMAND infotainment system with an 8.4-inch infotainment display, navigation, a four-speaker stereo, voice recognition, HD Radio, satellite radio, Bluetooth, and two USB ports. Standard driver assistance features include forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, driver drowsiness monitoring, automatic high beams, front and rear parking sensors, and a rearview camera.

Standard features in the 2019 GT four-door model include adaptive headlights, blind spot monitoring, rear cross traffic alert, automatic parking assist, remote start, a 12.3-inch infotainment display, a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, Apple CarPlay, and wireless device charging.

Optional features vary by model and include proximity keyless entry, push-button start, a panoramic roof, a 10- or 11-speaker Burmester surround-sound stereo, tri-zone automatic climate control, rear-seat wireless device charging, a 115-volt household-style power outlet, two rear USB ports, a rear-seat touch screen, and rear heated and cooled cupholders.

Optional driver assistance features include a head-up display, a surround-view parking camera, adaptive cruise control, lane keep assist, evasive steering assist, pedestrian detection, front cross-traffic automatic braking, emergency stop assist, speed limit assist, traffic sign recognition, and navigation-based cruise control and speed assist.

Most infotainment features are straightforward, and physical buttons for common controls are clearly marked. However, some critics note a few touch systems can be overly sensitive.

  • "But there are also some ergonomic oddities for this 21st-century steed, including a touchpad that invites accidental taps and acres of display screens—two customizable 12.3-inch screens Benz dubs 'Widescreen Cockpit'—that aren’t touch-sensitive." -- Automobile Magazine
  • "On the technology front, the dash sports dual 12.3-inch screens with reconfigurable layouts and the latest COMAND infotainment -- no, the GT 63 doesn't get Mercedes' new MBUX tech quite yet. Still, COMAND works well." -- CNET
  • "This car is made to be driven and AMG made sure the GT's myriad functions don't get in the way of that. Temp controls and most other functions have big, clearly marked buttons. Only real oddity is the shifter, which is funky and hard to reach." -- Edmunds (2018)

Cargo

The AMG GT Coupe has 10.1 cubic feet of trunk space, and the Roadster has 5.8 cubic feet. Mercedes has not released cargo volume figures for the new 2019 GT four-door model.

  • "Because it's a liftback, there's space for all your luggage, too." -- Motor Trend
  • " Cargo space [is] in just the right shape for two golf bags. … Minimal in-cabin storage, so-so cupholders. No exterior latch to pop the hatch." -- Edmunds (2018)
  • "On the practical side, the GT's rear hatch opens to reveal a very respectable … cargo space, enough to accommodate two golf bags." -- Kelley Blue Book (2018)
