2016 Mercedes-Benz GLE-Class Overview

Is the 2016 Mercedes-Benz GLE a Good Used SUV?

The 2016 Mercedes-Benz GLE is a good used SUV for shoppers seeking power and grandeur. It has an exceptionally elegant cabin with plenty of passenger and cargo space. The 2016 GLE350’s five-year estimated costs for these expenses total around $36,870. Which Model Year of the Mercedes-Benz GLE Is Best?

The GLE was an all-new model for 2016, replacing the Mercedes-Benz M-Class. There are few differences between this model and the 2017 GLE, with the exception of the 2016 GLE’s available diesel engine. The 2016 GLE will save you about $4,500 over a 2017 model, making it an attractive purchase.

Which Used Mercedes-Benz GLE Model Is Right for Me?

The 2016 Mercedes GLE is available in two body styles: a regular SUV and a four-door coupe. Trim levels mostly correspond to the vehicle’s engine. The base Mercedes-Benz GLE350 should be more than enough for the majority of buyers. It comes with a muscular V6 engine and a good number of standard features, which include some advance safety systems. To maximize fuel economy, choose the diesel-powered Mercedes-Benz GLE300d. Performance enthusiasts should take a look at the AMG-branded trims. The Mercedes-Benz GLE450 AMG has a brawny twin-turbocharged V6 engine, and it’s the only trim that comes with a nine-speed automatic transmission. For peak performance, go for the Mercedes-Benz GLE63 AMG or Mercedes-Benz GLE63 S AMG, which both come with a powerful twin-turbocharged V8 engine.

What Does Mercedes-Benz's Certified Pre-Owned Warranty Cover?

Mercedes-Benz offers a certified pre-owned program for vehicles six years old or less and with fewer than 75,000 miles. Eligibility is determined by the vehicle’s initial sale date. Mercedes-Benz certified pre-owned vehicles come with the balance of the original four-year/50,000-mile new-car warranty, plus an additional one-year/unlimited-mileage warranty. This warranty can be renewed for a fee. If the new-car warranty has expired, you’ll receive the one-year warranty with unlimited mileage. Every Mercedes-Benz CPO vehicle must pass a 165-point inspection.

If you’re unsatisfied with your CPO vehicle, Mercedes’ Exchange Privilege program allows you to exchange it for another CPO vehicle of equal or lesser value within seven days or 500 miles. Additional benefits like towing and 24-hour roadside assistance may be available, so read the Mercedes-Benz warranty page carefully.

Among luxury car manufacturers, Mercedes-Benz’s CPO program is about average. It’s better than BMW’s but not as robust as Jaguar’s or Lexus’, according to our analysis.

2016 Mercedes-Benz GLE Versus the Competition

Which Is Better: 2016 Mercedes-Benz GLE or 2016 BMW X5?

The BMW X5 outperforms the dull-handling GLE, delivering well-controlled cornering and quick steering. Additionally, the X5’s agility doesn’t compromise on ride comfort. The X5 has several powertrain options, including a fuel-efficient plug-in hybrid and several turbodiesel models. The X5 has a handsome interior with exceptionally comfortable accommodations up front, and it costs about the same, if not less than, the GLE. The BMW can also seat up to seven people thanks to an available third row, while the GLE can only carry five. These SUVs sit close in our rankings, so choosing between them is a matter of preference. The GLE has a better reliability rating but higher ownership costs. The X5 is a little more well-rounded overall.

Which Is Better: 2016 Mercedes-Benz GLE or 2016 Mercedes-Benz GLC?

The Mercedes-Benz GLC, a luxury compact SUV, is similar to the GLE in most aspects – except size. Both have upscale interiors, lots of features, and good reliability ratings. The GLC also handles better and is less expensive. If you can do with the GLC’s smaller size, go for it. We named it our 2016 Best Luxury Compact SUV for Families.

2016 GLE Performance

How Does the 2016 Mercedes-Benz GLE Drive?

Mercedes-Benz offers the GLE with several available engines, all of which produce significant power. The base GLE350 comes with a 302-horsepower V6 engine. Additional engine options include a 201-horsepower twin-turbocharged diesel engine (GLE300d) and a biturbo V6 that makes 329 horsepower (GLE400). The AMG GLE Coupe model has a 362-horsepower twin-turbo V6, and there are two high-performance AMG GLE models that have biturbo V8 engines that generate 550 and 577 horsepower. A seven-speed automatic transmission is standard in all models except the AMG GLE450 Coupe, which has a nine-speed automatic transmission. Rear-wheel drive is standard, and 4Matic models have all-wheel drive.

The Mercedes GLE has a smooth, comfortable ride. However, it has numb steering and lackluster handling compared to rivals. The coupe model is your best bet for engaging driving dynamics.

Does the 2016 Mercedes-Benz GLE Get Good Gas Mileage?

The base GLE earns 18 mpg in the city and 23 mpg on the highway, which is on par with similarly powered rivals. The GLE300d, which has a diesel engine, earns excellent fuel economy estimates of 22 mpg in the city and 29 mpg on the highway.
