  • Little head- or legroom in rear seats
  • Stiff ride

2015 Mercedes-Benz CLA-Class Overview

Is the 2015 Mercedes-Benz CLA-Class a Good Used Car?

The CLA-Class is a good used car. It has powerful engines, confidence-inducing handling, and an elegant cabin. The CLA's fuel economy and predicted reliability scores are above average. However, a finicky infotainment system, cramped rear seats, and a stiff ride may mean it's not the right luxury small car for all buyers.

Used 2015 Mercedes-Benz CLA-Class Performance and Interior

The base CLA250 accelerates quickly thanks to its peppy turbocharged four-cylinder engine. The standard seven-speed automatic transmission makes good use of the engine's power, and you can change gears on your own using steering-wheel-mounted paddle shifters. The base engine is fuel-efficient, too, getting 26 mpg around the city and 37 mpg on the highway. The CLA45 AMG packs an even more powerful turbocharged four-cylinder that can move the car away from stops in a hurry. Front-wheel-drive models are composed through turns, while those with all-wheel drive (4Matic, in Mercedes-speak) grip the road for tighter cornering. Unfortunately, the ride is a bit firm, so rough patches of road can make the sedan feel jittery.

The cabin is elegantly styled and appointed with high-end materials throughout. The front seats are roomy and comfortable. The back seats, however, are more cramped, with very little head- or legroom. Leatherette upholstery is standard, and some models may have leather upholstery, heated front seats, or sports seats with added side bolstering. The outboard rear seats each have a full set of LATCH connectors, and there's an additional upper tether anchor in the middle rear seat.

The CLA-Class comes packed with standard features, including a COMAND infotainment system with a 7-inch display, Bluetooth, a USB port, smartphone integration, and a console-mounted control knob. A larger 8-inch display with navigation is available. COMAND is overly complicated to use, with multiple menu levels to sort through. The physical buttons and knobs on the center stack are intuitively arranged.

How Safe Is the CLA-Class?

Neither the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety nor the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration put the CLA-Class through crash tests. That's not uncommon for a luxury vehicle. Every CLA comes equipped with forward collision warning and driver drowsiness monitoring, while some models may have blind spot monitoring, a rearview camera, front and rear parking sensors, or lane departure warning.

Should I Consider Another Used CLA-Class?

The CLA-Class was introduced as an all-new model for the 2014 model year, and there are some updates for the 2015 model year, including the addition of dual-zone automatic climate control and push-button start as standard features. The 2015 CLA-Class also has a retuned suspension and a larger base infotainment screen. An AMG Dynamic package is available with some 2016 models that adds a limited-slip front differential and an adaptive suspension.

Which Used Mercedes-Benz CLA-Class Is Right for Me?

Since engine power is the only difference between the CLA250 and CLA45 AMG, most buyers should stick with the base model. Drivers who desire quicker acceleration or sharper handling will prefer the CLA45 AMG.

Mercedes-Benz certified pre-owned vehicles come with the balance of the original four-year/50,000-mile new-car warranty, plus an additional one-year/unlimited-mileage warranty. If the new-car warranty is expired, you’ll just receive the one-year/unlimited-mileage warranty. Every Mercedes-Benz CPO vehicle must pass a 164-point inspection. Additional benefits like towing and roadside assistance may be available, so read the Mercedes-Benz warranty page carefully.

2015 Mercedes-Benz CLA-Class and Other Cars to Consider

Which Is Better: 2015 Mercedes-Benz CLA-Class or 2015 Audi A3?

The CLA-Class and the Audi A3 are pretty evenly matched. Both models have powerful engines, spry handling, and luxurious interiors. Neither offers much rear-seat space, however. The A3 has a more user-friendly infotainment system, and its available convertible body style may broaden its appeal for some buyers.

Which Is Better: 2015 Mercedes-Benz CLA-Class or 2015 BMW 2 Series?

Even though the BMW 2 Series earns a slightly lower predicted reliability rating, it's a better car in most other ways than the CLA-Class. The 2 Series is more thrilling to drive, with punchy powertrains and athletic cornering abilities that don’t sacrifice ride comfort.

Which Is Better: 2015 Mercedes-Benz CLA-Class or 2015 Mercedes-Benz C-Class?

If you can afford the higher price, the Mercedes-Benz C-Class is altogether a better vehicle than the CLA-Class. The C-Class offers one of the most luxurious cabins in the class, with first-rate materials covering every surface. The C-Class' rear seats are cramped, like those in the CLA-Class. The C-Class has balanced performance – poised handling and a cushioned ride – along with a range of engine choices.
