2014 Mercedes-Benz CLA-Class Overview

Is the 2014 Mercedes-Benz CLA-Class a Good Used Car?

The 2014 Mercedes CLA-Class is fitting if you want an upscale interior but rarely plan to transport adults in the back seats. The CLA-Class has two capable engines, agile handling, and fuel economy estimates rivaling those of hybrids like the Infiniti Q60. However, its ride can be unpleasant on bumpy roads and its infotainment system is confusing.

Used 2014 Mercedes-Benz CLA-Class Performance and Interior

The 2014 Mercedes-Benz CLA-Class sedan has a peppy 208-horsepower, turbocharged four-cylinder engine that generates gratifying power in most daily driving situations. For thrilling acceleration and speed, opt for the Mercedes CLA45 AMG's 355-horsepower, turbocharged four-cylinder. The CLA250 comes with a seven-speed dual clutch automatic transmission, and the 2014 Mercedes-Benz CLA45 AMG has a seven-speed AMG Speedshift dual-clutch automatic transmission. The base 2014 CLA-Class earns some of the best fuel economy estimates among luxury small cars: 26 mpg in the city and 37 mpg on the highway. Those impressive numbers are thanks, in part, to the car's fuel-conserving engine stop-start system.

The CLA-Class is at home on winding roads, offering corner-hugging handling and poise. The 2014 CLA45 AMG – which comes with all-wheel drive (4Matic) – handles even more confidently. On smooth surfaces, the CLA-Class has a comfortable ride. However, when the road turns harsh, so does ride quality.

The Mercedes CLA is a four-door sedan that has a lovely, quiet cabin made with mostly premium materials. It’s available with heated, leatherette-upholstered front sport seats and memory settings. In the rear, the car's sloped roofline creates poor headroom for adults. The rear outboard seats each have a full set of LATCH connectors for car seats, and there's an additional upper tether anchor in the middle rear seat.

The 2014 Mercedes-Benz CLA-Class comes standard with Bluetooth and an infotainment system with a 5.8-inch display. The CLA-Class has a lengthy list of available features, including a navigation system. The available knob-based COMAND infotainment system comes with an upgraded 7-inch touch screen. The system's complicated menus can make it difficult to find the function you're looking for, and its gearshift-mounted control knob can take some getting used to.

Should I Consider Another Used CLA-Class?

The CLA-Class was an all-new model for 2014, and its first generation continues through the 2017 model year. The 2015 CLA-Class may be slightly pricier than the 2014 model, but you may want to consider it for its retuned suspension and standard dual-zone climate control.

Which Used Mercedes-Benz CLA-Class Is Right for Me?

There are two trim levels available: CLA250 (base) and CLA45 AMG. Aside from their powertrains, these trims are nearly identical. The CLA-Class comes standard with Bluetooth, rain-sensing wipers, Mercedes' mbrace2 telematics system, and an infotainment system with a 5.8-inch display. A lengthy list of available features includes a panoramic moonroof, dual-zone climate control, a navigation system, a Harman Kardon premium stereo, and several active safety features. Unless you want the CLA45 AMG's standard all-wheel drive (which is also available in the base model) and the extra engine power from its stronger turbocharged four-cylinder, stick with the CLA250.

Mercedes also offers certified pre-owned vehicles. Mercedes-Benz certified pre-owned vehicles come with the balance of the original four-year/50,000-mile new-car warranty, plus an additional one-year/unlimited-mileage warranty. If the new-car warranty is expired, you’ll just receive the one-year/unlimited-mileage warranty. Every Mercedes-Benz CPO vehicle must pass a 164-point inspection. Additional benefits like towing and roadside assistance may be available, so read the Mercedes-Benz warranty page carefully.

2014 Mercedes-Benz CLA-Class and Other Cars to Consider

Which Is Better: 2014 Mercedes-Benz CLA-Class or 2014 BMW 3 Series?

The BMW 3 Series is among class leaders, so it has much more to offer than the CLA-Class – including extra interior space for all occupants. The 3 Series has a range of powerful engines, several body styles, and a ride that’s not only agile, but also comfortable. Additionally, the 3 Series has a user-friendly infotainment system.

Which Is Better: 2014 Mercedes-Benz CLA-Class or 2014 Mercedes-Benz C-Class?

The C-Class is another small Mercedes-Benz sedan. Like the CLA-Class, its cabin contains a confusing infotainment system and little back-seat space. However, the C-Class beats the CLA-Class in a few ways. It offers a stronger available engine, and its ride remains comfortable on most surfaces.
