2010 Mazda Tribute Overview

The 2010 Mazda Tribute shares a platform and attributes with the 2010 Ford Escape, and like the Escape, it isn’t the most highly-ranked in the class. When it was new, reviewers thought that the Tribute had adequate power from its available four-cylinder and V6 engines, but other SUVs had more refined powertrains. Available with front- or all-wheel drive, the base Tribute gets up to 22/28 mpg city/highway, which is about average for the class.

Despite the Tribute’s boxy design, some test drivers felt that the Tribute offered car-like handling and cornered fairly well. Still, other auto critics said that the ride was uncomfortable, bumpy and noisy. The Tribute performed adequately in crash tests.

When it was new, test drivers thought the Tribute trailed compact SUVs like the 2010 Toyota RAV4 in terms of space and refinement. Critics said that the Tribute’s front seats were comfortable, but some felt that the rear seats were a bit flat. Also, some reviewers took issue with the controls that they said blended into the dashboard, while others thought the controls were easy to use and well-placed. Cargo space inside the Tribute is class-competitive, but reviewers thought adjusting the rear seats for maximum space was a cumbersome task.

Automatic headlights, an outside temperature gauge, cruise control and a stereo with an auxiliary input are among the 2010 Tribute’s standard features. Features on higher trims include a sunroof, heated front seats, leather, a backup camera and an upgraded stereo.

Other Cars to Consider

If you like the Tribute’s exterior and interior style, the 2010 Mercury Mariner should be on your list of used SUVs to consider. The Mariner is based on the same platform as the Tribute, just like the Ford Escape, so all of the Tribute’s attributes carry over.

The 2010 Toyota RAV4 is a smart choice because of its good performance and strong safety scores. The RAV4 also gets better fuel economy, while offering 26 more horsepower. Though the Tribute has better interior quality, the RAV4 has more cargo space and also has an available third-row seat.
