2011 Mazda MX-5 Miata Overview

All 2011 MX-5 Miata models have a 167-horsepower 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine, and are available with a soft top or a retractable hard top. The Sport trim comes with a five-speed manual transmission, while Touring and Grand Touring models have a six-speed manual transmission. A six-speed automatic transmission is available. Miata models with the automatic transmission produce 158 horsepower. The 2011 MX-5 Miata gets up to 22/28 mpg city/highway, which is above average for the class. Reviewers liked the Miata’s lively engine, especially with the smooth-shifting six-speed manual transmission. According to test drivers, the Miata shines on winding roads, thanks to athletic handling and responsive steering.

Reviewers liked the fit and finish inside the Miata. However, they also said that there isn’t much space in its two-seat cabin. Test drivers said taller people may want more head- and legroom. The Miata has 5.3 cubic feet of trunk space, which is less than many affordable sports cars' trunks. However, unlike some other convertibles, the Miata’s retractable hard top and soft top do not reduce trunk space when lowered. Standard features include air conditioning, power windows and mirrors, a height-adjustable driver’s seat and a CD player. Available features include cruise control, power door locks, keyless entry, leather upholstery, automatic climate control, heated seats, keyless ignition, Bluetooth and satellite radio.

Other Cars to Consider

The 2011 Ford Mustang is a good option if you want a convertible that can seat up to four. The Mustang is also more powerful and earns a stellar safety score.

Reviewers liked the 2011 Nissan 370Z’s attractive, functional interior. Like the Miata, the 370Z is a two-seater, but it also comes with a more powerful V6 engine.
