Most auto critics think the 2014 Mazda6 has a high-quality, stylish cabin. A couple reviewers think the simple design is a downside, though. They’re all on the same page when it comes to the car’s roominess, agreeing that the Mazda6 offers plenty of space, as well as comfortable seats. Though critics say most of the Mazda6’s controls are easy to use, the available navigation system is disliked because of its small screen and confusing interface.

The five-seat Mazda6 has cloth seats on the base model, leatherette on the mid-level trim and leather seats on the highest trim. Heated front seats are only available on the highest Grand Touring trim. Power-adjustable seats are also available on higher trims.

Critics agree that the 2014 Mazda6 has a very spacious cabin and comfortable seats. One reviewer thinks the seating materials are nicer than what was available in older Mazda6’s. Another test driver notes that forward visibility is very good.

Interior Features

The base 2014 Mazda6 with the manual transmission comes standard with push-button start, a six-speaker audio system and auxiliary and USB inputs. Base models with the automatic transmission add standard Bluetooth, a rearview camera, a 5.8-inch touch-screen display, HD Radio, Pandora Internet radio connectivity, voice-controlled audio controls and hands-free text messaging capability. The Mazda6 can be equipped with features like rain-sensing windshield wipers, a moonroof, heated side mirrors, dual-zone automatic climate control, adaptive cruise control, advanced keyless entry, an 11-speaker Bose surround-sound audio system, satellite radio, navigation, a blind spot monitoring system, Mazda’s Smart City Brake Support system, which can automatically apply the brakes at low speeds if the system detects that the car is about to hit another car or pedestrian, a lane departure warning system, forward obstruction warning and a rear cross traffic alert system.

The majority of reviewers say the Mazda6’s center stack has an intuitive design, with controls that are easy to find and use. One test driver also likes the console-mounted control knob, which he says makes it easier to navigate through the infotainment system. The available navigation system receives mostly negative comments, with critics saying the screen is too small, and that the system doesn’t have streets properly labeled. They note that the navigation systems in rival cars are better.

The 2014 Mazda6 has 14.8 cubic feet of trunk space. Although this is on par for the class, some midsize cars have bigger trunks. The Hyundai Sonata has 16.4 cubic feet of room, and the Ford Fusion has 16 cubic feet. Critics say that although the Mazda6’s trunk isn’t huge, it seems bigger than it is.
