2013 Mazda Mazda5 Review

Although its cargo space is at a premium, reviewers loved the 2013 Mazda5’s nimble handling and good fuel economy.

Pros & Cons

  • Agile handling
  • Excellent fuel economy
  • Small cargo area
  • Cramped third row

2013 Mazda Mazda5 Overview

Most automotive journalists wrote that the 2013 Mazda5’s four-cylinder engine has enough power for driving around town and on the highway, but some said the Mazda5 feels slow when it’s full of passengers and cargo. A six-speed manual transmission is standard, and a five-speed automatic is available. According to the EPA, the 2013 Mazda5 gets up to 22/28 mpg city/highway, which is better than what most minivans get. While some wrote that the 2013 Mazda5’s ride isn’t quite as comfortable as a full-size minivan’s, reviewers said the Mazda5 is athletic and fun to drive, with great cornering grip and quick steering that make it easy to maneuver.

Test drivers wrote that the 2013 Mazda Mazda5 has a practical interior layout with uncomplicated controls. The Mazda5 seats six, which is less than what most competitors can accommodate. Reviewers said the first two rows of seats are comfortable for adults, and the third has enough legroom for children. The 2013 Mazda5 also has one of the lowest cargo capacities in the class. Standard features include automatic climate control, a six-speaker stereo and a USB port. Available features include a moonroof, leather upholstery and Bluetooth.
