2010 Mazda Mazda5 Overview

When it was new, reviewers placed the 2010 Mazda5 somewhere between a wagon and a minivan, thanks to its small stature and seating for six. Despite its solid car-like handling, reviewers felt that the Mazda5’s engine needed more power on the highway. Reviewers also found that its limited cargo space might not serve large families well, but overall, they said the Mazda5 was an excellent choice for small families. The Mazda5 also gets slightly better fuel economy than most 2010 minivans, getting up to 22/28 mpg city/highway. Although the Mazda5 could use more power, reviewers thought that it had solid braking and its compact dimensions make the Mazda5 easy to park.

Because the Mazda5 is smaller than most used minivans, reviewers said that the cabin was cramped and the third-row seats were only suitable for small children, even though the second-row seats slide to expand legroom. However, the third row folds flat to expand cargo space. Notable standard features include cruise control, automatic climate control and a six-speaker stereo. A fully-loaded Mazda5 might have features like satellite radio, a sunroof, Bluetooth and a touch-screen navigation system.

Other Minivans to Consider

The 2010 Toyota Sienna is a good full-size alternative to the Mazda5, thanks to its powerful V6 and spacious interior. If the Mazda5’s compact stature can’t accommodate your family’s needs, reviewers agreed that, with good cargo space and seating for up to eight, the Sienna offered plenty of space. However, the Sienna’s safety scores aren’t quite as good as the Mazda5’s.

Both the Mazda5 and the 2010 Kia Sedona cost about the same when they were new, but the Sedona has better safety ratings, as well as more interior space. Reviewers praised the Sedona’s value, but liked the Mazda5’s zippy wagon-like handling and performance. Still, if you need a larger vehicle and you prioritize safety, the 2010 Sedona should meet your needs.
