Most reviewers say that the 2014 Mazda Mazda2’s cabin has a basic design and is made with hard plastics, and some point out that there aren’t any soft surfaces, even on the armrests. Test drivers agree that the front bucket seats are comfy and supportive but the back seat is cramped. Audio and climate controls are well-placed and simple to use, reviewers note, but the Mazda2 lacks the tech features that are available in rival cars, such as an infotainment system. They also say that a strangely-shaped cargo hold makes bulky items difficult to stow.

The 2014 Mazda2 seats five and comes with a tilt steering wheel. A leather-wrapped steering wheel is available. Reviewers say the Mazda2’s front seats are very comfortable and supportive. Rear seats are small even by subcompact car standards, they say, and head- and legroom are at a premium. One test driver points out that the steering wheel doesn’t telescope, which may irk some drivers.

Interior Features

The 2014 Mazda2 comes with a four-speaker CD audio system, an auxiliary input, a USB port and keyless entry. Optional features include Bluetooth phone connectivity, cruise control and a six-speaker audio system.

Test drivers say that audio and climate controls are conveniently placed and intuitive to use, though one reviewer says the audio display screen is rather small. Several critics point out that the Mazda2 lacks an infotainment or navigation system, features that are increasingly common in rival subcompact cars.

The 2014 Mazda2 has 13.3 cubic feet of cargo space with the rear seats in use and 27.8 cubic feet of space with the rear seats folded. That’s pretty good for a small hatchback, though the Nissan Versa Note has more overall cargo space. Test drivers say the Mazda2’s cargo hold has an awkward shape that makes it hard stow larger items. One reviewer reports that there isn’t much interior storage.
