2011 Mazda Mazda2 Overview

The Mazda2 was all-new when it was introduced in 2011. It may be small, but this five-seat hatchback is pretty fun to drive. Even though the Mazda2’s four-cylinder engine doesn’t make much horsepower, reviewers said it’s still a hoot to drive thanks to strong brakes and responsive steering. The Mazda2 averages up to 29/35 mpg city/highway, which is good for the class.

On the downside, the Mazda2’s small size means that it may not have enough cargo room for some shoppers. Most critics agreed that the Mazda2 has comfortable front seats, but as with many small hatchbacks, the back seat only fits two.

Car reviewers appreciated the Mazda2’s cabin, which has a simple design that’s made with quality materials, but they wanted more standard interior features. The base Mazda2 Sport comes with air conditioning, power windows and door locks, keyless entry and a four-speaker stereo with an auxiliary input jack. If you choose the Touring trim, you’ll get a leather-wrapped steering wheel, six-speaker stereo and steering wheel-mounted cruise and audio controls. Bluetooth was optional on the 2011 Mazda2, but you can’t get a USB port or a navigation system on any trim.

Other Cars to Consider

The 2011 Toyota Yaris, which is available as a hatchback and sedan, has a lot in common with the Mazda2. Like the Mazda2, the Yaris doesn’t have much cargo and passenger space. The Yaris also has a strong set of safety features for the class, but its overall safety score is slightly lower. Additionally, most reviewers agreed that the Mazda2 offers better performance.

If you’re considering the Mazda2, you may prefer the 2011 Ford Focus because it’s larger and has more tech features. Those aspects aside, the two vehicles have a lot in common. Both have good fuel economy and safety scores, but fall short with small back seats. However, like the Yaris, car reviewers gave the Mazda2 a higher rating than the Focus for performance.
