2011 Mazda CX-9 Overview

According to reviewers, the 2011 Mazda CX-9 is the perfect SUV for those who had to give up their RX-8 or MX-5 Miata when their families grew, but don’t want to buy a boring crossover. When it was new, test drivers said the 2011 CX-9 was one of the best-handling SUVs in its class, and it has a spacious and attractive interior to boot. Plus, it comes with tons of standard features.

The 2011 CX-9 comes with a 3.7-liter V6 engine and either front- or all-wheel drive. Base Sport models come with standard features that include Bluetooth phone connectivity, tri-zone climate control, an auxiliary audio input and a leather-wrapped tilt and telescoping steering wheel with audio controls. The Touring model adds features like automatic headlights, leather and power-adjustable heated front seats, while the Grand Touring trim adds push-button ignition, a blind spot warning system and wood trim.

Other Cars to Consider

The 2011 Toyota Highlander won’t be nearly as fun to drive as the Mazda CX-9, but those looking for a practical seven-seat SUV with great fuel economy and safety scores should make sure this Toyota is on their shopping list. It’s not luxurious, but test drivers said the Highlander’s cabin is well-made, and they appreciated its smooth ride.

The 2011 Chevrolet Traverse is a good alternative to the Mazda CX-9. It offers an adult-sized third row, which is rare for any SUV, and has one of the largest cargo capacities in its class. Plus, reviewers agreed that the Traverse’s well-made interior has a decent number of standard features. It’s not as sporty as the Mazda CX-9, but its interior is upscale and spacious, and it outranks the CX-9 when it comes to safety.
