Some critics think the 2014 Lincoln MKZ’s interior is full of cheap plastic and unappealing textures, while others feel the MKZ has an attractive, sophisticated interior and appreciate the standard wood trim. Some test drivers think the front seats are comfortable, while others think they’re too narrow, but everyone agrees that the rear seat lacks headroom. Automotive journalists think the MyLincoln Touch infotainment system doesn’t respond as quickly as they would like, and is very difficult to use. The MKZ does have good trunk space for an upscale midsize car.

Leather upholstery, a tilt and telescoping steering wheel and heated, power-adjustable front seats come standard on the 2014 MKZ, while optional features include a heated steering wheel, heated rear seats and heated and cooled front seats. Several automotive journalists think the MKZ has a quiet, well-isolated cabin, and some say that the MKZ’s front seats are very comfortable. However, others write that the front seats are too narrow and confining, and many reviewers mention that the MKZ’s sloping roofline cuts significantly into back-seat headroom.

Interior Features

The 2014 Lincoln MKZ comes standard with push-button start, dual-zone automatic climate control, an 11-speaker stereo, satellite radio, the MyLincoln Touch infotainment system (which provides access to audio, navigation and climate functions through an 8-inch touch screen and touch-sensitive buttons) and SYNC (which allows you to connect your smartphone via USB or Bluetooth and control it using voice commands). Options include an upgraded THX II sound system, a panoramic moonroof, parking sensors, a rearview camera, voice-activated navigation, a blind spot monitoring system, adaptive cruise control, a lane-keeping system and a system that automatically steers you into a parallel parking space.

Unlike most cars, the MKZ doesn’t have a shifter for the transmission. Instead, gears are selected via buttons on the dash. Most reviewers say the MKZ’s push-button transmission is clever and easy to use, and they like that it frees up space on the center console. Several test drivers also write that the adaptive cruise control system is well-engineered, and that it maintains good following distances and brakes reliably in heavy traffic. On the other hand, the MyLincoln Touch infotainment system is criticized by a number of reviewers, who say that it’s slow to respond to user inputs, and has small, touch-sensitive buttons that don’t always respond when you press them.

The 2014 Lincoln MKZ has 15.4 cubic feet of trunk space, which is more than what most other upscale midsize cars have, and the MKZ Hybrid has 11.1 cubic feet of space in its trunk, which is smaller than most upscale midsize hybrids’ trunks, including the Lexus ES Hybrid. A power trunk lid is optional on the MKZ and MKZ Hybrid. While one critic writes that the MKZ has a decent amount of trunk space, another says the trunk opening should be wider. Still, the MKZ earns praise for its large center console, which reviewers think offers plenty of space to store small items.
