2012 Lincoln MKZ Review

A comfortable, spacious interior and plenty of standard features are highlights of the 2012 Lincoln MKZ. However, auto writers say that the MKZ still lacks the performance and refinement of many competitors.

Pros & Cons

  • User-friendly interior controls
  • Large trunk
  • Smooth ride
  • Some cheap interior materials
  • Not as fun to drive as competitors
  • Poor fuel economy

2012 Lincoln MKZ Overview

Reviewers said the 2012 Lincoln MKZ has adequate acceleration with its standard V6 engine. A six-speed automatic transmission is standard. The MKZ is available with front- or all-wheel drive. According to the EPA, the 2012 Lincoln MKZ gets 18/27 mpg city/highway, which is OK compared with many other six-cylinder upscale midsize cars. Critics wrote that the MKZ isn’t as fun to drive as many of its competitors, but they said it has controlled body motions, though some said the steering is slightly numb. Reviewers agreed that the MKZ has a smooth ride. They noted that the available sport-tuned suspension improves handling reflexes.

Critics wrote that some of the 2012 MKZ’s interior materials are nice, but others seem low-rent compared to the premium materials in Audi, BMW and Mercedes-Benz vehicles. However, the MKZ’s spacious front and rear seats pleased reviewers, as did its trunk, which, at 16.5 cubic feet, is quite large for the class. Standard features in the 2012 MKZ include leather upholstery, front seats that are heated, ventilated and power-adjustable, rear parking sensors, dual-zone automatic climate control, a nine-speaker sound system, satellite radio, a USB port and the SYNC system with Bluetooth and voice command capability for compatible cell phones. Available features include a moonroof, navigation, a rearview camera, blind spot warning and a THX surround-sound audio system. Reviewers said the MKZ’s audio and navigation controls are user-friendly, and they wrote that the available THX audio system has superb sound quality.

Other Cars to Consider

Test drivers said the 2012 Buick Regal GS is very fun to drive, has excellent handling and has a firm, yet comfortable, ride. If fuel economy is a top concern, the Regal eAssist gets 25/36 mpg city/highway, which is great for the class. Critics agreed the Regal has a very well-made interior in every trim.

Reviewers said that the 2012 Audi A4 has first-rate interior materials, build quality and design. They added that the A4's handling is composed, with nicely weighted steering and ample braking power.
