2011 Lincoln MKX Overview

The Lincoln MKX was significantly updated for 2011, gaining the touch-screen MyLincoln Touch infotainment system, a new grille and an updated, more-powerful engine. Combined with its excellent fuel economy in front-wheel drive models and improved interior quality, test drivers said that the 2011 Lincoln MKX is a good choice in its class. Its list of standard features is more extensive than most of its competitors, and includes a 10-speaker stereo system, voice controls, leather upholstery, 10-way power-adjustable, heated and cooled front seats and push-button ignition. The few available options when it was new include features like adaptive HID headlights, heated second row seats, a rearview camera and navigation.

However, the MKX isn’t universally praised. Car and Driver unflatteringly compared the MKX’s grinning grille to the face of a whale, although that helps to differentiate the MKX from the 2011 Ford Edge on which it’s based. Many reviewers had trouble operating the MyLincoln Touch system, which was buggy and confusing when it was introduced. Reviewers also complained about the performance of the MKX, which some said is boring. Additionally, while the MKX’s safety scores aren’t terrible, other five-seat SUVs have better safety scores. Still, if you don’t need an SUV that’s especially sporty, or one with three rows of seats, the 2011 Lincoln MKX should be on your shopping list.

Other Cars to Consider

If you want an SUV with a similarly high-tech interior but much better performance, consider the 2011 Infiniti FX. Reviewers raved about the FX’s cabin, saying it was comfortable, upscale and filled with high-tech features. They were particularly impressed by the FX’s sporty driving dynamics and powerful engines, especially the available V8. Its fuel economy isn’t particularly good, but the FX’s performance and bold styling help it stand out from the crowd.

You should also consider the 2011 Lexus RX. Reviewers maintained that the Lexus RX is one of the most well-rounded luxury crossovers in the class, with a comfortable ride, a classy interior and a roomy cabin. The RX also gets great safety scores. It’s not nearly as fun to drive as the Infiniti FX, but it’s hard to beat the Lexus RX for comfort and practicality.
